Scania would never make it here unless they came up w/better design for American roads. Lot less real estate in Europe and surrounding area. We have not even started to develop the land in the US. Highways everywhere are wider and can accommodate longer trucks easily except for OD loads that are given their routes. They are a good truck for where they operate. In Iraq the locals were much fonder of MB and Volvos. Did see some Scanias there as well though. The American market dwarfs you guys and if they were able to compete they would.

I drive a 2007 long hood 379 Pete with a 600hp Cat C15 and it is definitely the finest truck i have ever driven INCLUDING the V8 Scania i drove in Europe. Fact!
That said, the Scania is a piece of fantastic engineering. The original V8 Scania was the truck that pioneered the long haul middle east routes from the UK down to Iran, Iraq & Saudi Arabia back in the 1970's when the oil boom started and the political situation was very different to nowadays.
Some of those routes were a month each way and passed through several different countries including mountain passes through the Alps and Barren deserts in the middle east.
In fairness, nobody can question the Scania's engineering and durability.
As far as living accomodation goes the Scania is way behind a Pete. As i said before the sleeper on the biggest Topline is much smaller than any driver in North America would find acceptable but this is purely to conform with the stupid Euro length regulations and not the fault of the manufactures.
To summarize, I would not swap my 379 Pete for any Euro truck but that is not to say they are not good in their own enviroments.98989 and dieselroarmt875b Thank this. -
And they never get stopped, lot's of money involved, in between politicians,supermarkets owners and probably mafia since all this companies are from the south and trucking is a good way to recicle money -

you want a road train truck? you wont see many euro plastic fantastic haulin that.... why? cause they dont pull, and arent up to the task for expended lengths of time..
the ONLY place euro trucks survive is east coast. county of origin for most engines??? USA.
Euro engines have a multitude of shortcomings that are very hard and COSTLY to deal with.. lack of non factory support for one.. repairs abuse the wallet something fearce.
Euro trucks DO NOT LAST out here. they are pretty knackered by the 10 year mark, or just over the 1 million klms point.
My western star with 1.8 million klms and a CAT, was in better condition, ran better, broke less and so on than my NEWER iveco.
This truck i regret buying. its not overly bad ( for the record it has a cummins in it ), but the fact that only iveco sell anything for it, means ultra pricey parts.. Worse even than KW, and that is saying a lot.

here are the short distances that trucks drive ( 90% of all euro transport is within 500 km -310milles)

European transport is still far less paid ( for example my brother drives 220km (136mille) route with lot of hils
when you drive 25 tonnes of grain

Fuel consumption is very high (40L/100km 5.9mpg)-fuel consumption if you're loaded in both directions (88000LBS)
fuel and toll charges are 200$ in one direction
often happens that you do not return load
because of high fuel prices and our trucks have a higher compression ratio....
and the engines are slightly short lasting
in most cases the engines are smaller volumes than yours (10-13L )
Also our trucks have a shorter transmissions (1450-1500rpm at 56mph is very often on croatian trucks)
I am quite sure that your trucks are better for us than our trucks
that nobody would have bought ours....and vice versa.....A team of engineers trying to do what is better trucks for specific markets.

Italian Frigo is a special thing ( refrigator) ,
violates all the possible laws that exist......
Driving fast and without sleep and rest.....
I know a Slovenian company that drives relation kopar ( slo) Lisbon( portugal) 2700-2800km for 27hours including loading unloading lot of hils ( slovenia-italia-france-spain--porutgal) and paperwork (it takes a lot of time in Europe) with 420/480hp scanias an 40tons
they also often drive padova-madrid-vigo-zagreb = 5000km driver get 700 for this circle
I know a lot of other drivers who drive up to 35 hours.....
These are also reasons for the frequent crashs
