A trucking lease is no different than a car lease... The leasee ALWAYS comes out on the short end of the shaft. -
whoa, do you realize you can claim no depreciation for taxes on your equiptment but somebody is????????? Jump in & lease from any company & you will wake up quickly

I wasn't going to comment but can't resist. A Lease Operator making $1000 - $1200 a week after expenses is great money what are you smoking. Thats what a company driver makes at least should make with no headaches. An O/O should make at least $2000 a week after fuel bill on a bad week. As an L/O your going to need to make a lot more than that to feed the wolves & take care of your truck. Go out buy a truck & lease to these company's what do you get????? Lucky to get .90 a mile. Save your own life be a company driver if this is something you really want to do save your money (if you can't save money then you won't last long anyway) & do as much time doing your homework as the money you want to make. Most these Company's say walk a way lease....Yep, with a knife in your back. They will sue you for whatever they can put it on your credit report. Don't pay them it will be deleted after 10 years on your credit report & no trace of it ever being there....As for the lease payments to write off just give them all your money then you have nothing to worry about.....Good Luck

I ran as a lease operator for Prime twice. The first time was in 2001-2002 about 16 months. At that time I ran solo in the flatbed division. I ran hard and stayed out around 7-8 weeks at a time. I had a great dispatcher and I was profitable. I took the Ace 2 class and learned how to properlt read the statements. I always got my fuel at the best locations. Remember it's not always the price at the pump that matters one must also consider fuel taxes. The only reason I left in 02 was due to divorce. My kids were young and they wanted Dad. I decided to go back in 2008. I went into the rerer division and worked out of the terminal in Pittston PA. I was not profitable. Could I have been more proactive about the lack of miles and long deadheads I had? Maybe. The bottom line was I was told that in order to make it I would need to run teams. That was not an option for me as I will only run solo. My choice. Anyway I eventually turned the truck in and went to another carrier. Funny thing is I keep recieving bills in the amount of my negative equity. Humm Walk away lease? The last one even had monthly payment arrangements. I am wondering if anyone else has gotten such notices. I haven't responded and dn't intend to anytime soon. I am proof that you can be prfitable in the lease and also prof that you can loose your arse. Alot about it changed from 2002 to 2008 not to mention that refer and flatbed are 2 seperate entities.

You're not the only one. Pittston had a lot of problems - especially the part where the TRL dispatchers were kept on instead of being fired. The economy didn't help anyone either.

Of the lease is for the most part to the advantage of the company. So is leasing in any other form. If you want to work for yourself in any industry, you pay the cost to be the boss. You have to hustle, run smart, and get in good with your load planners.
