Its not outside the realm of possibility. I've seen faulty aftermarket J1939 devices spam up the datalink on construction equipment. Unplugged the faulty accessory from the datalink, everything worked fine. Plugged it back in and lost communications on the datalink again.

Yes. Getting "starter blocked shift to neutral" while driving in n 12th gear. 2020 dt12. Dropping out of gear. Eventually transmission completely disengaged. Towed to dealer. Unplugged pos Rand ELD. Problem gone. Anyone reading this if considering Rand ELD don't do it. They even lied said integrable with Project 44 just to make the sale. Now I got a hefty bill for tow and dealer service. I'd like to place a bat upside Rand McNally corps head.

It's not the specific brand ELD, it's ANY ELD plugged into the diagnostic port. The diagnostic port is NOT meant for ELD's to be plugged in. It offers direct, unrestricted access to the truck's computer -- and even may void warranty (per Kenworth).
There's a secondary hookup that restricts direct, possibly interfering, access to the engine information that you should use for the ELD, which takes an adapter like the one below.

Mine was peoplenet causing glitches. And it got pulled out.
But the last time I had problems. Which was last month.
The truck had some work done. And the battery wasn't tight. It was having a complete system wide failure.
