Haji busted in Arizona for transporting over 500 pounds of illegal drugs in produce load

In my time hanging with older drivers, I had heard the term several times. I never questioned the origin.

In perspective, I'm almost 50 and 'older drivers' are in their 70's now.

My best guess is a reference to 'I dream of Genie' series from 1950's - 1960's era - where the chief of Genies was of Middle Eastern descent.

I've been slammed for referencing the gender/race/ethnicity of folks in posts on here and appreciate that it may not be necessary in the telling of events/stories.

I think I once said 'colored chap' - and was lambasted for living in the 1950's.

It's a minefield.

 

Could be that too - but if I was a smart drug dealer, I'd be recruiting guys that are in "Show rigs of 2024 Calendar" rather than risking that amount of blow on a random errr . . . . trucker.

 

You're correct, I was pointing out that if I was a Sikh I wouldn't want to be called a Haji or Hadji. Those terms refer to Islamists that have done the pilgrimage to Mecca.

And even though Sikh's wear turbans, they have nothing to do with Islam.

I'm 65 years old and as I was growing up all kinds of slurs were in the mainstream. But through education I was able to ask, if I leave out the adjective does the message still resonate?
