It’s not crucial. I went from Dry Van, to flatbed, to hauling logs, to fuel, to chemical, and back to fuel.

 

Difficult to get a linehaul/LTL job right out of cdl school, except Old Dominion. Old Dominion hires right out of cdl school if they have any openings.

 

If there's local work for new cdl school grads, then go for it.
Some drivers spend the whole career and never go OTR.

 

If your moving to Katy, then apply to Costco. That would be a short drive to work. Or if moving to Sugarland apply to Nalco. That will be a short drive to work. There are alot of options around H-town. But with so many people in houston these days. It makes perfect sense to move near where your going to work. And to get on at a place where you can make decent money. And not have to worry about the place going out of business.

 

More trucking terminals on the east side of H-Town?

 

All of the refineries are in Baytown, Pasadena, La porte area. But with the explosions or leaks that they have every year. I would stay far away from those plants as ppl tend to say. Pearland is a good area to live if your job is in the petro chemical area.

 

I had my tractor at the quala wash down the road from the Loves, same road as Battleship Texas. Yeah they had a big tank fire, couldn't work if I wanted too for two weeks. Or some time period.

 

Just stay with company for at least 24 months accident free / try to keep your CSA record clean. That will open a lot of doors to better paying jobs. Single with not obligations, go to the oilfield, i.e. (West Texas & North Dakota).
