That's definitely possible.

It does happen to trucks a lot that they're in and out of these dealerships and all they do is keep writing them bills.

I would suggest eventually you have a nice website and make yourself a larger presence.

It is possible if you charge a reasonable fee that people would call you simply for advice.

There are a lot of people out there with a lot of trucks that they can't fix that they've spent a ton of money on, and they just don't know where to turn next.

I would bet if you're good at conversing and instructing, you could probably guide someone to do the testing so that the problem can be pinpointed.

If you had a good reputation for that, I bet a lot of owner operators would be happy to call you up and pay you whatever the fee is if they could really diagnose their own truck and maybe fix it themselves, rather than go to a dealer.

If you have that kind of skill and you could get on the phone with people, for the owner operator it would be a very cost effective and time effective thing.

So much time and money is wasted at these crazy dealerships.

 

There's already providers that offer most of the services you mentioned. The big one, offering assistance on behalf of the customer, to service providers, just ain't gonna fly.

Several things, if you're not actively involved with repairs on new equipment, you're falling behind knowledge wise.

Service providers don't want, and often couldn't use outside assistance. Your not going to be much help when the only person you can talk to is a service writer, and they won't appreciate your calls in a hurry.

It takes tons of knowledge to piece together a diagnosis from talking to a driver. There's certain questions that need to be asked, that most would think would be totally unrelated. Do you have that knowledge? If so, would you be the one making the diagnosis for every call?

 

What’s it sound like? It’s kind of a grrrrrclickclickklunkwhoosh, followed by a zrooooom zrooooom, then it dies. Only happens when loaded pulling a hill. What could it be? Hmmmmm. Seriously, dates and mileage of PM’s and repairs performed, along with due dates and mileage for next PM due, shows proof of scheduled maintenance. Keeping records on file is required for compliance. Especially important in a post accident audit.
