My view is that the payments on a new lease truck are nearly insupportable as a solo lease op - unless you really have your game wired tight. A short-term lease would be doable. Otherwise you'd need to team or train to make it work.

Now you're scaring the children IP... that is pretty extreme. Would you not be making more money right now if you were a L/O? The loads/miles are there, and all signs show that loads are starting to pay better. Take the loads that Prime gives you, run hard but smart, pick up and deliver early when possible, and watch your fuel prices and mileage. It is not much more complicated than that when it comes down to it. You need to train or team to REALLY rake in the dough, but you can make it work and then some if you want to lease. There are plenty of solo L/Os making good money right now.nical Thanks this.

Not sure...
I still run across enough solo L/O's who aren't making it...
My old FM says yes and no - it really depends on the rates, which are admittedly slowly rising. KR says the "freight demand index" (something he follows and pays to get access to) is nearly as high as it was in '06. I think (as a solo) you really do have to be careful about your expenses - too much left foot will kill your paycheck - and getting into it without a cash cushion could be painful. My Century goes back in June... I guess I'm going to be finding out about this... -
Sorry guys bad news there are only a few people out of 4700 trucks at prime all but about 500 are lease trucks and if you get stuck at the terminal on friday look to get out of there on sunday. The money avg of $550 a week less than my truck payment and sometimes in the hole for 3 weeks at a time Prime is for Prime and not for the drivers

Don't take loads going to SPRIMO... DUH!!! Too many trucks, not enough loads!
I'd say it's more a case of not enough drivers being smart enough to figure out how to make it work. And there's 850-or-so company trucks. -
Why is it always the ones with only one post, and really bad grammar?
-
Ah... not enough brains to write in proper sentences equates to not enough brains to keep the right foot under control and can't recognize a good load when one is offered?
-
It couldn't possibly be that, could it?
