Can you have a scanner in a truck ?

 

There are a few states including yours and KY, IN, and I think a couple more, where you have to have a ham license to run a scanner mobile, car or truck. The law that outlaws radar detectors in commercial vehicles (in part 392) specifically uses the words "radar detector" and doesn't say anything about scanners.

 

why would you need a license to use a scanner? all you can do is listen with it lol

Because they are illegal in CMV in some states.

 

Because the laws in those states prohibit using them without one.

Which states are they illegal in a CMV, vs. just being illegal across the board?

 

I have had a Radio Shack cb for the last 6 years. It has wx and I have no problems getting out or recieving. I would rather spend my extra money on my motorcycle I guess.

 

The problem with a WX on a CB is when it goes off,it will scare the crap out of you!

 

You will have to check each state. I have looked at there is no majic site for the information on a commercial vehicle. There is one for the mobiles, but not for a cmv.

 

I was asking because I have my doubts that there are any scanner laws specific to CMVs. I have a standing $100 reward for anyone that can show me a law that prohibits firearms in CMVs where they are legal otherwise or for proof of EPA speeding pollution tickets in the 55mi/hr truck speed limit zones in Tennessee. I might have to add this to the list.
