The law here it must be INSTALLED in the car or truck.

We get calls at the shop ( Since I work for the Sheriff ) And if it is on its OWN batterys and has its OWN antenna you ok ... BUT check with the local laws anyway.

In close to 20 years of working for Law enforcement shops I have seen only 2 people get busted. BOTH had drugs and were using the scanners to avoid the cops.

Indiana's law applies to all vehicles. All I'm saying is that these laws aren't specific to CMVs.

This Uniden chassis is hard to beat for durability. Regardless of WX capability or not.
They tend to have a better receiver than the exports, in terms of adjacent channel signal rejection. There are a bunch of mods that can be done to the Uniden CB's to increase the transmit power. These are one of the better radios to have tuned for competition or daily use, no doubt about it.

Depends....sometimes you can adjust the volume of the alarm so it's not so loud when it comes on....or you can turn it off.

  7. I always thought that they were illegal if used in the commission of a crime. Guess I need to do a little research.

  8. I have the newer orange faced Uniden PC78 Elite weather radio CB. It has been really tough and reliable.

You can set the WX part so that it doesn't go off all of the time and scare you. If I think the weather might get bad and I'm talking on the ham radio, I'll set it for the alert.

Also, it gets out every bit as good as any other barefoot radio I've ever run. In some cases, it actually gets out BETTER than a few export radios I've had. It sounds good, too, I just don't have an echo board and roger beep, which does nothing for me, anyway. I think it's incredibly annoying to hear these guys who use so much echo you can't even understand them. If they ask for directions or anything, I tell them I'll help them as soon as they turn the frikkin' echo off.

The trick is to have a radio tuned properly, NOT just clipped, and the SWR's set right. Mine doesn't splatter, doesn't transmit on 14 channels at once, and sounds better than a few of my friends who spent three times as much on their set ups. I really like my weather radio/ CB combo. It does me a fine job.

I have. That's why I'm stressing the point, I get tired of hearsay about CMV laws being presented as fact. I've got a $100 bill that says that there are no scanner laws in the lower 48 that are specific to CMVs.

I'm NOT a trucker my dad held a CDL for 50 years but I'm Diebetic and my eyes alone would not pass that test. THIS is why I asked since it might save someone a ticket .....
