Many years ago, I recall reading an article in Southern Motor Cargo (a then Mphs publication) that you could run a truck for a dollar a mile.
Wondered if that included my $.05 per mile pay in that cost analysis. Shoulda been room for a little more I thought..

I think of @JolliRoger every time I'm running one of the 2-lane US Highways. I know many of the alignments have changed since the 50s, but sometimes I find myself on one that hasn't changed, and I can see where the old cafes and truck stops used to be.

Sometime the building is crumbling and the sign is still up, but no one is there. Sad.

When I was trucking in the 80s that was kind of the goal - buck a mile for all miles. Run 150k a year and we were shickled #######!

There was a tv show that came on every Saturday morning at the house. American trucking report. The host went by Lowboy Lucas. That’s how he signed off every show.
“A buck a mile will make you smile”. Must’ve been the late 80’s

Now 4 bucks a mile for all miles is just mediocre

The way things are going, they will soon put ground beef into those little tins like caviar and sell it by the gram

I would bet that Malibu wagon could bring you more than $700 but I like the bumper sticker
