This is very good. What insurance company are you using?
if you dont own a truck, what are you going to insure? You need to have a truck to insure it. Pensky's truck is rental. If you had your own commercial policy, then you dont need their insurance but in any case to get a policy you need a truck.
They are not A rated. Why would you want to deal with them? There are many other A rated companies just as competitive as this company. What do they offer?
I dont want to post a link or a phone number here because I am not supposed to. But my insurance agency is really good. They were able to insure me even when I had a brand new CDL. Anyway, I think they know what they are doing. If anyone wants the contact info just PM me.
PS
Just like the guy couple of posts earlier I dont get anything from them, I just wanna give you the people I use.
This is whom I have and my insurance agent was able to get me unlimited miles with them. I can even hire a driver with brand new CDL and still put him on the insurance. And the price is good. PM me if you want more info.
Dude OOIDA is not even a rated insurance company. They have something similar to insurance company but it is not. Plus 8,500? Are you crazy this is too much.

Hello Drivers: Can anyone explain to me how to request or deal with an insurance agent on Cargo Insurance? I will be renting or leasing a trailer from Ryder. when I call for most quotes I am always asked what type of freight I'm going to be moving. Hell beat me with a stick if I know!that will depend on what I find on the loadboard. I guess this is not the answer that is going to get me the best rate
I really don't have a good answer so I'm asking for any suggestions as how do you cover yourself if you pull a van for whatever is out there.
Any info that would the most versatile is greatly appreciated.

Currently using Northland Insurance Company - it is a division of Travelers. Keep in mind several of the factors that influence a quote are location. If you are based out of Miami it is more expensive due to frequency of accidents b/c of the amount of people in that area. Northland's system rates pretty heavily on the driver and the experience of the driver. With a decent bit of experience and a clean MVR it should rate out well. For Cargo Insurance Dry Van freight is a little less expensive to insure than Reefer / Flatbed or Haz Mat due to the obvious nature of when stuff goes bad on a reefer or flatbed / haz mat it typically goes real bad and obviously costs more to the carrier to fix the problem.
As a side note I am an insurance agent and owning a small trucking company is more of a "side" thing right now as I hope to make it a full time deal in the near future. Any insurance questions just ask and I will be happy to answer. -

I would think your logs could be used to show experience, or any fuel reciepts......But im not sure landstar would accept it.

As a few of you know, I am in the process of purchasing a Tractor to setup as a 'show truck'. I have my USDOT (Private Carrier).
I am trying to find SOMEONE that will give me a quote on Liability insurance ($1mil). It would only need to cover the tractor (for now) and there will not be any loan/lean on the truck.
EDIT:
I just got a basic quote on $1mil Liability. $1102/yr (if paid in full).
To add comp/coll and trailer coverage brings me to $2400/yr.
(WI also requires some mandatory UM/UIM coverage on top of that too)
..I am sure I will find quotes all over the map, but wanted a baseline as I started looking for my KW.
My target truck is around a 2005 T600 or a W900 if I can find a decent one. I listed the value at $20k for insurance
quote value.Last edited: Apr 27, 2010

Hi there, can you tell me who your agent is? We're ready to renew and that is a really great rate.
We are with Northland right now. We need $1 million liability, $100,000 cargo, drive all of U.S. and haul building materials. We don't need any collision or comprehensive since our tractor/trailer is paid for and has a low blue book value based on the age. No claims in 3 years, perfect driving record, 15 years with CDL. I always wonder if different agents all representing Northland take a different cut so I'm shopping around.Last edited: May 15, 2010
