Well, the reason i asked is because knight came out last week, saying they are looking into buying a company worth 400 million, they didnt name the company but i do know, the people who running marten now came from knight.

Hey guys, I'm here. Sorry, I have been busy, busy, busy! Marten is not going to be bought out by anybody. We are debt free and even in 08, over a year before I came over here, they made a profit even with fuel prices at 5 dollars a gallon. Reminds me of the rumors when I was at Werner.... every week we were being bought out by some company. I'm down here at our Ontario, CA terminal spending the night... got 3 stops in the LA area tomorrow.

    alex94 Thanks this.

Dryver... they do have internet service north of the border, LOL. But it's expensive unless you luck out like I usually do and be at a Flying J and you can log into their wi fi... I'm switching to a different plan on my Verizon broadband plan so I can use my 5 gigs in both the US and Canada.

    Dryver Thanks this.

I am not looking to hi-jack LT's thread, but I have a question for the Marten drivers.

I am a fresh CDL holder with future sights set on Marten (If the company I am starting with does not work out, that is). I have several Pre-hires and have a orientation start date with Roehl (refrigerated OTR) and waiting to hear from Schneider on a regional position which I would prefer at this point in the game. In my opinion and helpful research from this forum, these are my two best options from my pre-hires. My question is which starting company may be the better one to position me for Marten if after some time my beginning company does not work out to my benefit? I am not looking to jump ship even before I hire on with a company, but like to have a future plan "B" in place if needed. There is a General Mills facility in my city and see many Marten trailers there when I go by and from the positive posts in this forum concluded that Marten may be a good fit in the future.

I understand the experience with Roehl in refrigeration would be helpful as far as refers go, but is the learning curve that steep that a position with Schneider regional dry van would hinder me from going to Marten in the future?

    Thanks for any replies.

Thanks LT, I used to deliver to the warehouses in Vernon, just east of downtown LA. The traffic down there is like an XBox game, enjoy! LOL

Well Bigcove I would go with Roehl Refrigeration for several reasons.

1: While you are right learning to run the refer is not that hard there are some differences between refers and dry van. For one thing the way you load them. Refers are a heavier trailer with a 1500 lbs engine on the front. You also have to get use to the engine cutting on/off right behind the sleeper. There's no shutting it off because it bugs you. It gets turned on at the shipper and stays on. Not every one can handle that. The customers you serve are also different. Refers can haul anything anywhere. Dry van is well... Dry only.

2: Running 48 states will give you more experience and skills then running circles in the same area. Some companies don't even count regional as OTR experience. They want someone who has dealt with winter in the rocks and summers in the south. Who has seen a blizzard, sand storm and thunder storms. Who has dealt with L.A., Seattle, Chicago, NYC, Atlanta, Miami, Boston, Dallas and Denver. Running regional gives you very limited area with very little experience. It's the same area day in day out.

This is MY opinion based on 18 1/2 years of running OTR and Regional. After you have 2-3 years of OTR and are happy with a company. It maybe Roehl, It maybe Marten, It maybe some where else. Then if you want to run local or regional go for it. But don't start your Driving carrier off limiting your options.
