I posted earlier today and got some great advice. Thanks guys. So first of all I am not some hard headed idiot looking for confluence on my ideas, I really listen and take advice (even if some people are a little jaded).
so, I changed my business plan. I have two options:
1. Buy a 25k$ international lt for cash. looks like I can get a 2021 with around 400k miles for 25k cash. Then would rent a trailer while I save up for a new one.
2. Could buy same truck, but lease on to a company. I’m not against leasing on, but have heard that it’s very hard to find a good company. If that’s the best route, what do I need to ask for in order to find a good company to lease on?? I’ll do the work of calling and asking. But not sure what to ask in order to get the details that matter.

A lot issues both sides of the border with tariffs. Howver, certain areas in the market have picked up. Make sure you have the majority of the paperwork regarding repairs on that truck since its new. If you haven't experience its good to lease onto a company however honest ones are like finding gold these days.

Have you considered insurance? New Authority will cost $$$$. As far as the Truck. Get the engine info. Brand, HP, etc. and the trans/rear ratio and post it on here. Find all the info you can before buying. Regular maintenance alone will cost $1000 per mo. Double that amount to cover the unexpected per year. You might do well for a couple years. Eventually needed repair costs will catch you. Best to start saving and planning your next Truck purchase (probably in 2 years). I like the cheap Truck idea. There’s a chance it may work. Like others mentioned, considering the risks, it’s not as great a deal as it seems. Main reason is the risk of needing more $$$ than it’s worth in a couple years. At some point you’ll have to decide when to cut losses. Cheap Truck, less loss, should the worst case scenario happen. Like any used vehicle, it’s going to have increasing maintenance costs. Might run it up to 700k before a major repair bill, like $8000-$20000. Might blow the engine. Easily $35k-40k these days. Might get $8k trade in value, in 3 years towards a $80k truck. By then you’ll be convinced that an $80k Truck with 175k mikes, with warranty left is better than a $25k Truck with 400k, and almost 0 resale value. Eventually you’ll decide brand new is best, if you’re somehow still in the game. Nothings written in stone. Anything’s possible. Might get lucky, might not. Not being sarcastic, just my experience, and also seen it happen many many times. The trick is to cut losses and move along before a disaster repair bill happens. Putting saved money towards next Truck. There’s no way to know for sure if or when a disaster will happen. That’s why I say start planning now. Trade up ASAP. The cheap starter truck is a big risk. Best to be willing to walk away if needed, instead of chasing it, spending more, constantly thinking you’ll be “all set” after this next repair. It never happens. Always something. Only after you’ve replaced everything, and run it another 3-4 yrs afterwards, will you finally start seeing some savings. Better love that truck. Lol. Need funds available to avoid major financial problems. Plan accordingly, or wait till you can. Talk to other O/O’s at any company your considering. There’s good companies, just have to be careful. The big promises usually are the biggest thieves. Good Luck.
