A guy that used to be my wife's supervisor was the same way, he was a mechanical engineer.
Him and his wife bought a new RV, he put out the slides and awning, all that stuff to get a "feel" for it, then it rained, awning dead flat and pooled water in it so he decides he poke a hole in it to drain and of course awning tears open and soaks him....next plan, need to get rid of the awning I just ruined. Now he goes up a ladder to take the end cap off of the leg, takes out the bolt and it won't move, so he gets a baby sledge goes back on the ladder gets up close and personal give it a whack, awning came loose and grabs his T-shirt which pulled him off the ladder as the spring released, at the same time he knocked over the ladder. Couldn't get to his pocket knife to cut himself loose, shirt to tight to get out of so he hung there for a couple hours until his wife got home to cut him down.

Unfortunately that is a true story.

It’s funny right up till it’s you hanging— or trapped under the tongue of a boat trailer

Back in the late 60s into the 70s I had several British cars. Had an Austin Healy Sprite, An MG Midget and a Mini Cooper. All of them had a positive ground. Of course the Brits call it earth, not ground. so positive earth. Didn't take me very long to have it right in my head. Also, for the Brits a Hood is a bonnet. Trunk is a boot. Transmission is a gearbox.
