For middlemen and other 3PL's it's a shock wave. And think about how easy it is for Walmart to pick up whatever freight they want to from their vendors and haul it to the DC for some actual profit from the trucks. We pick up new backhaul freight all the time. And because they can do it more competitive than common carriers how that helps them control a cost. Trucks cost money yeah, but their fleet is just another tool they use to do what they do. Contract carriers take that control and ability away from them and do it with worse levels of service. We talk about service levels every quarter. They post the numbers outside the break room every week. Service is a big deal to them.

They take all the darts because they're the biggest private company in the world. Hate goes with the territory. Started from one store built by one man. In a lot of places it actually pays better than anything else somebody working in a store could make doing similar work. And don't kid yourself it's just some place poor people shop at. Everybody shops there and there's Walmarts in wealthy areas too. Wealthy people like to save money. Driving up to a store and picking up your groceries without ever setting foot inside the store is wildly popular among a lot of people especially wealthier ones.

The downtown square in my hometown has undergone a massive revival in the past 20 years. Lots of small time shops and places to eat. It's thriving. It's like that in the town squares of a lot of places around here. This article reads like something from 30-40 years ago when that wasn't the case. Never mind all of the charitable things they donate time and money to in every community they're in, right?

Wal-mart’s great!! Rah, rah, rah. You’re delusional. Fact is Walmart doesn’t need broker authority to have you pick up outside freight as it stands now. It’s not about back hauls for you. And they don’t even need broker authority to give loads to outside carriers.

So… what’s the point? To become an Uber freight? To compete with their biggest competitors? Amazon

But carry on. See how many drivers jump ship when you get stuck on a ####ty brokered load. But I’m sure Walmart won’t do that to you.

It's not about cheerleading for them. Just arguing a bunch of wrong info from a hater. No, it's not about backhauls for us. It's about them expanding their business into other areas. They're into a lot of things outside of retail you'd be surprised. Freight brokerage business is actually kind of a logical thing for them.

Just pointing out some facts that you don't seem to like. You're looking forward to when they fire all of the drivers to save trucking costs so you can thump your chest and say I told you so. Can't see the forest for the trees.
