Every local swift driver I have talked to,has had to drive OTR to get into their local position. Thats the nice thing about this forum. Maybe someone knows something different.

    Goldpanner Thanks this.

Don't set your son up for a very hard life by encouraging him to go into trucking. Just my advice.

Yea I don't know where I seen it, I have been to so many company sites my eyeballs are falling out:)
I know that in Wisconsin at least to drive intrastate "in state" you only have to be 18 but good luck on finding someone give you a chance, we see a lot of logging trucks out here with 18 to 20 year olds driving them but I'm betting it's family run. Thanks for the link, I haven't seen that one before.

Thanks but I'm not setting him up, he wants to truck drive, you know kids at 18 they change thier minds constantly, he seems to be set on this plan, I tell him the in's and out's and tell him to browse this forum to see what he is getting into, and so far he is OK with it, I also told him about schooling costs, and if he don't finish with for example Swift then he owes them money for the remaining training costs, so he is not going into this blinded or "set-up".

And I don't understand the "hard Life" idea, trucking is what you make of it, you want to know a "hard life", working at a stinkin' factory for 20 years, 10 to 12 hours a day or more doing the same stupid zombie thing day after day, that is all they have out here in Northern Wisconsin, at least in a truck you get to move around and see the states.

Don't let them get you down Goldpanner. Truck driving, just like any other job, is what you make of it. If you go in with a positive attitude, it can be a rewarding career.

    Goldpanner Thanks this.

I want to thank you all for your replies to my thread on this, I'm sure these questions have been asked a million times in different ways all leading to the same answer.
I'm glad I found this site awhile back, I spend most of my time reading and getting the the information from the people who do this for a living instead of a pumped up recruiter trying to fill schooling slots.
The more I read the more I start double thinking about this company or that company.
There are so many posts on here I think a person could spend a lifetime just reading the swift threads:)

So once again thank you all for your replies I like you being open and saying it like it is, that is why this is a great forum:)

Thanks Wildbill411, I won't, I actually like them being open about it, I knew when I started another thread on going to Swift I was going to get some "fun" replies but I had to ask:)
