Thanks, i will definitely try that (the additional ground).

I'll start researching ECMs. Am I limited to 11.1L donors? Or can i grab any Dd3 or dd4 no matter of engine size?

    Thanks

Update: added another ground (engine to battery) and corrected a jenky connection from the ECM to the positive side of the battery, still have the dreaded check engine light.

I've started looking for replacement ECMs but I'm not sure which generations will plug and play. Would appreciate any help on that. Thanks

The only plug and play will be DDEC 2. Where are you located?

@Big Road Skateboard I'm in Indiana - Of course nothing is plug and play (why would it be? LOL)

What's involved in swapping out the others?

New engine harness, drill and tap intake for air temp sensor, etc. Pretty big deal for something that may or may not work.

You really need to find a way to hook to it to see why the lights are coming on if the light is still coming on when RPM cuts out.

I have an 2003 DDECIII that I just had a ECM rebuild done on account of the battery being bad internaly account of age. I bought the truck about 5 years ago and had active code for the battery having low voltage but it ran fine so I didnt worry about it until recently. Was afraid of battery rupturing and ruining components inside ecm and stranding me, so bit the bullet and had it fixed.
Learned a ways back that when they start throwing random stupid codes that make no sense, it usually boils down to a bad ecm but you pobably have figgered that out by now.

@Big Road Skateboard I hear you, working on getting a reader. Can I use an ECM that's the same generation (DDEC 2) but from one of the other motors (12.7 or 14)?

@MAMservices: man, you know I haven't figured anything out by now (I'm working on a 22 year old truck with a computer from the Flintstones era, yeah I got it all figured out! LOL)

I'm looking into another ECM, hopefully I can correct the issue because (when it wants to), the truck runs great.

Yes, though there was no 14L in a DDEC Ii. It will start and run, though some pins may be assigned to different functions. There wasn't much for programmable DDEC II vehicle controls, but cruise and jake may be affected

Good news - was able to make use of a pro-link set up, deleted all the historic codes. drove around for a while and dreaded light came back on. it is a single code for the fuel temp sensor. will be replacing that soon. So far (fingers crossed) no power loss. Either way, at least I have something to grab onto and work through.
