Swift apparently didn't pay any of their drivers this Friday..

    I've got cash on hand, but I'm beyond preparing for "#### hits the fan", I'm prepared for the zombie apocalypse.
    I've got gold, guns, and ammo. (Those 3 will always be better than cash ;))

    Did see a few Swift's yesterday in Houston moving.
    The BNSF stack train was rolling along More Amazon than anything else.
    Traffic was pretty light coming out of Houston yesterday for a Friday

    Every driver on the road should have several hundred stashed away in the truck for an emergency get home fund

    What if you lose your wallet ?
    Or your wallet gets stolen ?

    or your credit cards get hacked and you have to cancel them ?

    or your company goes belly up with no notice ?

    trucking companies never ever give any notice and bring the trucks and drivers back to the terminals . They just turn off the fuel cards and let the drivers figure it out what happened

    Gold. My daughter and SIL are making good money, I said, invest some in gold. Gold is the one thing through the ages that kept its worth. I suspect the future will be no different.
    @gekko1323 , I live in a growing town called Salida, the next Aspen, as it were. It's a smaller town, about 7,000, at the base of the 14'ers in central Colorado on the Arkansas River. Walmart is our only retailer and if they don't have it, you do without, or package delivery is huge here. Canon City, about 50 miles away, has just about anything one would need.

    Huh, unrelated side note im actully at the loves in canon city right now for my 34 and pick up from the S&G place off of 115 a few times a year and the various mines around here pretty consistantly. Never knew i was consistantly stomping around your backyard lol.

    Appearances can be deceiving.

    How many of those parked trucks are being in/out processed? How many are assigned to a driver on home time? How long does a truck sit idle waiting to be assigned a driver?

    Most of my trainees who would be based out of GB assumed they would pick up a truck from the GB yard. They assumed that because on any given day there are 20-30 trucks sitting on the yard. Very few actually did. What they didn't understand is it wasn't the SAME 20-30 trucks. Some guys come in on Thursday and leave out on Sunday, some guys come in on Saturday and leave on Tuesday, and every possible other iteration of home time. Not to mention the local guys.

    When we went through Gary they saw hundreds of trucks sitting. Start with the fact that 1,000 drivers run out of Gary, then consider it is one of Schneider's main truck sale locations. Every year Schneider buys 2,000 trucks and sells about the same number. It takes time to take a truck out of service - PM it, swap the tires for brand new junk, remove the eld components, remove the decals, and detail it - call it 12 hours of work. Work that is a low priority over in service units being down. Then 2-4 weeks to sell it. It also takes time to bring a unit into service - PM/Quality Inspection, eld install, etc. I remember one of the first T-680s was delivered with no/insufficient oil in the differential. Truck sat for months while Schneider and KW fought about who would pay what.

    Having a constant number of trucks on the yard isn't necessarily a red flag. Seeing the number of trucks on the yard grow, especially over a shortish time frame, is a different story.

    I go by there, everyday. Tractors stacked 4 deep aren’t turning. There’s a stacked group of 567s. They’ve been sitting, since last summer. There are rows of obvious new trailers that aren’t turning. I can see where the trades or used stuff is sitting. That smaller area turns.
