Thank you for responding. The research is going well. We're close to the final stages of putting together the plan. We intend to cater specifically to the truck driver and working to provide ways to move trucks as quickly as possible through the fueling system, including dedicated fuel desk, a fuel kiosk, the ability to pay at any register in the store, room to pull forward, and, if we can find the pumps, the ability to fuel both sides of the truck at the same time, utilizing the assistance of a staff member.
If anyone can think of anything else that we can or should do, please let us know.

Ample parking well lit at night, clean showers and plenty of them, less candy bars/hotdogs everywhere where buying more than one is somehow better for you, better non soda drink choices at the fountains.
Dislikes:
Trash can overflow, truckers gather many items from stores multiple times daily and thus need to drop trash out more frequently.
With tougher rules for driver fitness we need better food on the road, its #### expensive to eat on the road and cheap stuff is the really bad stuff usually.
Better drainage in parking lots = less potholes figure it out and we can stop tearing our trucks up and your lot up.
Non automated shower systems, get rid of the stand in line bs where most feel uncomfortable since they need a good rinsing after sitting in a truck for extended times. Pilot's system is a good working example.
Well you can't do a whole lot about this, but I'm a truck driver so I got to say my biggest dislike is other lazy truck drivers. Throwing trash away on the lot/yellow bottles, parking crooked disabling some spots or making danger zones, clogging the fuel stops while doing other non fueling activities. Support "Your mom doesn't work here" mentality heh.pappalion Thanks this. -
As far as food availability, it's all about choices. You can sit down and have a proper meal with salad OR you can have a Big Mac and fries...it's all about what the person decides to do.pappalion Thanks this. -
Choices can be formed by others though and not entirely from you alone, eg. marketing (why else is marketing what it is).
So are you defending what current truckstops have for food choices and marketed low priced items hang above each urinal to eat and drink? What truckstop do you eat at? People eat the first thing they see, can afford, or is available when they are hungry.Last edited: Nov 13, 2010

A strong wifi signal(even in the back row). A nice area for pets(maybe a trail around the property). Near a shopping district(walmart, lowes, bestbuy, petsmart...). Allow drop trailers. Seperate bob-tail parking. Quality food. Talk Whole Foods into opening a store nearby. Styrofoam fountain drink cups(no puddle in my cup-holder). Some way to keep graffiti off the bathroom stalls would be nice.

There are no new rules regarding driver fitness.
They are talking about proposing one for sleep apnea, which may or may not involve use of BMI and neck size. Which would mean I would have to get tested no matter how much weight I loose.
But no rules exist, and none will be on the books for at least 2 years. Since it takes that long for new regs to get going.
But this is not the proper thread for that discussion.pappalion Thanks this. -
We would like to thank everyone for replying. The feedback has been helpful.
We think our best thought is to start with a fueling center. This fueling center would provide fuel islands for trucks only and would also be a convenience store with showers, laundry and a truckers' lounge. We would start with a grill type restaurant with reasonable prices.
Later we would add more things like a larger convenience store that would sell passenger car fuel. There would be a nice sit down style restaurant with a special truckers only section that would have televisions and telephones at the table. A truckers first policy would be in place so that they could get served fast. A limited time of day buffet would be provided for those who prefer a buffet but a full menu of cooked to order items would also be available.
Here is what I have heard out of what you have shared. I tried to boil it down to what seemed to be the most common statements.
