Are the annual inspections linked to a truck? If someone is buying a used tractor, is there a way to get info on the last inspection, when it was done, any problems, etc.

The paperwork for the inspection should either stay with the vehicle or a sticker should be affixed to it, with the location and mechanics name, so they should be able to give you info for that single inspection, and perhaps more if they were done by that location.

If you're wanting this to get an idea of vehicle condition spend $100 and get an inspection done by a mechanic of your choice. A lot can change in a day let alone almost a year. Get info from ECM to get an idea of idle time. The ECM readings will also give information on sudden braking and acceleration which will give you an idea how the truck was treated.

Native Dancer is correct. Unless the used truck has a warranty, the purchaser must check more than the superficial annual DOT check list which does not involve the engine, transmission, radiator, clutch, wheel bearings, etc., etc.

An annual inspection (if done correctly) covers safety issues on a truck, normally if you buy a truck from a dealer they will do an inspection at that time .the exception is a new truck which is exemt for the first year. a sticker will be affixed to the vehicle showing the name and address of the inspector and a copy of the inspection report needs to be with the truck also. As far as engine and gearbox condition it is not covered in the inspection unless there is a safety issue involved ie; oil leaks ,cracked housings etc. when buying a used truck find a reputable shop and ask if they can do a 'pre buy' inspection on the truck, this should include a 'blowby test ' an ecm histogram, oil samples, as well as all safety items, and a comprehensive test drive to assess vehicle condition.
