You need a company that has APU or lets you can idle truck in summer heat when you go get showers or wash clothes

If the dog doesn't have a CDL and can drive, the dog stays home.

I think the OP is looking at it wrong, while others who seem to have no issues with it don't realize what could happen.

I will not get into the gruesome stuff that has happened over the years I have witnessed, but needless to say many company drivers do not need to be animal owners, and a bunch should not be parents.

It is simple, I can see an experienced driver getting a pet to go with them, but not a new driver. This can turn into a disaster as much as a kid being with a new driver.

The OP is a new driver, I don't get what they mean about mentoring, or the assumptions they have, but I can and will continue to suggest that the OP looks for something local. They MAY assume OTR is the only gig in town to make the big bucks when it isn't, and who knows, the OP may be a total ******* UP when it comes to driving which is what should worry all of us and all the more reason why they need to find local work.

This isn't a business for pets, kids or Wife/girlfriend/both to be part of unless they can drive ===>> speaking only about company drivers.

The OP will need to watch, listen, and NOT BE DISTRACTED BY ANYTHING IN THE CAB TO LEARN HOW TO BE SAFE.

This means they get a local job if they want to keep the dogs.

@Ridgeline respectfully I disagree that pets shouldn't be with new drivers.

If your pets are accustomed to road trips and don't bother you then why not. Of course iif the pet is whining and pawing at your arm that is an issue.

From my notes for carriers open to 2 pets:

    Western Express
    Frey Miller
    Magnum
    Hirschbach

I got my CDL late November 2024 so it was tough to find a carrier starting orientation before the new year. All the good outfits flat out said call back mid January. I could not wait that long so won't with Western.
