I agree. I would take that over a cabover, but I like being able to see whats in front of me...

P and D will be safe, but all other meet and turn or team operations could easily be platooned.
Food and beverage - not safe. Problematic for the company, but not a stretch.
I debated specialized with an older friend a couple years back. His argument was that with sensors on extremities - and guidance in the infrastructure, it could be done.
The way I see it - the infrastructure is mildly capable at best - and his vision was at least 30 years away, the way I’ve seen government move.Folk Fries, High Stepper, Chi Town Steers and 2 others Thank this. -
Can Western be tolerated to get the contract time over with to regain experience? I know you were there.

If we only had that crystal ball to guide us. On the path to ruin? Nah, we've been on the Highway to Hell for quite some time now. What I seem to find, is younger folks that never saw a .89 cent loaf of bread, don't think there is anything wrong with current prices. Why should they? Heck, with alleged 6 figure incomes, that used to be 1/3 that, to them, it's just the cost of living. My parents freaked out when bread went over a buck a loaf. I had a great life making $30K /year. I read a disturbing article about the future of trucking, and it doesn't look good. With as important an entity as it is, complete failure could take down the country, and looming. At 70, I don't think I'll see the eventually bottom falling out, it will slog along like this for years, but rest assured, great civilizations have failed with alarming likenesses to what's happening today. Gonna be a heck of a mess, make 1929 look like a picnic. Who's to blame? Why our good friend Mr. Greed. Our motto should be, "if this is good, more must be better". Well, that analogy will surely be the end. Several years back, I knew a guy, Ed LaRue from Jersey, great guy, gone now, he was a paratrooper in WW2 and did 5 "jumps" over Japan. Many didn't make it back from one. He couldn't understand what has happened to America, saying in his time, wasn't half a loaf of bread better than none at all? Apparently, not today, Ed. Enjoy, and this Jalopnik rarely does any trucking stories, so it's getting around..

I think people like to predict or bet the future will always be worse because you can’t really predict what will happen or how technology will change stuff. Look at trucks 30 years ago compared to today. Does anyone want to go back say driving 55mph and driving cabover like JB Hunt had for years back then ? Then no cell phone and no streaming every song or movie today.
Yea the camera in truck sucks today and ELDs has some benefits and some drawbacks. Trucks are still a lot nicer then some International cabover that used to be standard for lot of companies201, Chi Town Steers and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
I’m waiting for the driverless truck to unload a load of DDG. Dig it out, waylay on the knock rails with a big hammer.
The plants don’t send anyone to unload trucks, 9/10 won’t even hand you their big hammer.
Not to mention sweeping this up.Oxbow, Sons Hero, Chi Town Steers and 1 other person Thank this. -
