My best friend in grade school was the same. Marching band though I think.

On the jazz side, did you ever get down with brushes instead of sticks?

There was this touring jazz drummer in SLC a few years ago who was marketed as playing percussion as melody solo. Don't remember who... but is there anyone that stands out as a jazz drummer you recommend?

I never realized how old the peppers were until I heard a documentary about their early years and who was it, George Clinton or someone like that, I think produced an early album.

Did you ever try out the electronic kits they have, what do they call em? Pads? Or something like that

Flat Earth Trucker and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Blues seems like a fun rabbit hole to go down.

I've heard so many styles referenced, muddy, Chicago, Memphis, swamp, etc wheres a good place to start?

My all time favorite drummer ever is Clyde Stubblefield . Best know as the drummer for James brown . Dude has some of the funkiest chops I ever witnessed . Used to try to play like him and never came close to ever catching his groove.. this record right here basically birthed early hip hop music. Clyde is the one playing the drums here. I used to be able to play this quite well but there's no way in hell I could catch that groove anymore :D

we would play with brushes every once in awhile when the work wasn't drum driven, and just laying back in background filling space. Electronic drums I never tried them out at all . Had a buddy that had them , but I was always a analog type of guy. I love making noise. Especially heavy metal music . I used to love beating the #### out of em
