Looking for long haul in N. CA.

    I have just over 3 years doing team dry-van 48 state hauls as well as dedicated air freight with CRST. I have a clean record during that time except for a 10 mph over in a 4-wheeler over a year and a half ago (Its taken care of now). I'm having trouble finding me a new job. I'm just ready to move on. I'm looking for a solo truck thats regional to the western states. 48 would be alright though. I don't want to deal with a company that trains students. I'm tired if not being treated like I know what I'm doing due to the high amount of students. I live in the extreme north-western corner of CA (Crescent City). I know it is hard to get me home there as there is no freight but I want to run for about 3 - 4 months and then take 2 weeks of home time. This is what I have been doing for the past 3 years and it works great for me. My problem is companies think I'm blowing smoke when I say this is what will make me happy and that no one stays out this long. Also I don't have a problem if I have to leave the truck with in a couple hundred miles and rent a car. Been doing that already. Any ideas? I was looking at Heartland and really liked what I was seeing but they want me to move to AZ and I have friends and and some elderly family I would never get to see in CA if I do that.

    You must be leaving something out. Living on I-5 in CA there are plenty of companies I could recommend. But you say you are having trouble?

    I having trouble figuring out where to start looking. There are plenty of companies that want me but my home time requests have been an issue, Its hard to get me home on a regular basis so people don't want to touch me because they think I'll be pissed about being out so long even though thats what I want. I promis you there is nothing about my personaly or professionaly that should be turning people off. Every one has begged me to reloacate. I just don't want to move right now.

    I wouldn't mind going flatbed. I've never done it though so I would need to get with someone that would be willing to teach me the art and rules with tarps/straps/chains exct. Is that something companies are willing to teach or would I need to figure it out on my own?

    Melton had me out 6-8 weeks and were good at getting me home when I wanted to. I live in Oregon (Coos Bay) north of you and I was making 500-650 a week as a company driver with 4 yrs exp. But I caution you !! DO NOT LEASE with these guys... you will run for free if you do and will never get home! Now as a company driver that likes the open road for 2 or more months, they were good to me. And they will train guys to tarp and run flat bed, Flat beds are what I prefer but it is more demanding then bumping a dock... and you wont be as FAT!...lol So I hope this helps ya.

    truckerjaw--have you seen my post? run team to S. CA from Indy, SC an NJ. All termianl to terminal, long haul, no touch. I like to be out at least 3 weeks, home 4 days or so, but I'm pretty flexible. Take a look at what I posted and think about it. send pm and we can exchange info and talk for real.

    hmm.. I am from eureka I had the same problems but I was not willing stay out that long, so I no longer live there. should be some small flat bed companies in your area that run LA. also Grants pass,Medford,Central point, have some western states and otr companies, thats not that bad of a commute once a month or so.

    Have you tried the companies out of WA and OR? I know that Gordon is up there and Systems. I love Crescent City. You could always sign on to CDC and run the prisoner buses. They are always coming in and out of there. Pays a lot more than trucking.

    TJ, if you don't mind pulling a reefer, what about Market Day (I think they are now called Market Transport, or something like it). All their ads talk about just running the I5 corridor, back and forth, sounds like it could work?
    Leann beat me to it, I was going to suggest System as well, they also haul boats which can pay some bucks too.
