I guess it can cost as much as $50 to fully charge some Tesla models at a Tesla Supercharging Station. Heck basically the same as gasoline cars. Sure driving locally one could have their own charger at home reducing the cost but traveling is another matter.
I don't see where the 'fuel' expense of a class 8 electric truck would be any cheaper than buying diesel.
Class 8 electric trucks performing well, but incentives still required

Its just moving the pollution source from the stack to the coal fired power plant where people don't see it.thatsright, hope not dumb twucker, broke down plumber and 6 others Thank this.

Stop. Don’t be stating the obvious. Lmfao!hope not dumb twucker, broke down plumber and OldeSkool Thank this.

It's highly likely the battery technology will never be there. Gasoline has a lot of energy in it and it's volatile. That comes with the territory. You look at lithium batteries and they just burn and burn because of all the energy stored inside and if you try and increase it it'll just get more and more volatile.
To be fair, cleaning emissions can take a lot of space and weight. If you need to move your power source, it has to be more space and weight efficient than if it's a land-based power plant. There's also lots of alternative energy sources in solar, hydro, and wind not to mention nuclear. -
I’ve often wondered why

Sorry, buggered up trying to quote. I have often wondered why there’s not hybrid semi’s. Locomotives have gobs of torque and they are the original hybrid. A big diesel generator on steel wheels. I have often thought a 4 litre diesel engine running a generator could make a lot of torque, and maybe even be direct drive. That same engine could make air and you would have minimal changes on a truck, (still compatible with existing trailers) I’m sure smarter people than I have had the same thoughts and they still aren’t here. Must be a good reason. Personally I’d rather share the road with many not so flammable tanks of diesel ( compared to gas) than giant lithium batteries. I had one of my Bosch 8ah battery packs take a tumble from some scaffolding, one heck of a show when it hit the ground and cracked open!!
broke down plumber Thanks this. -
More space and more weight and what we have works good enough. Space and weight are not a major factor on trains. There's currently a Canadian outfit working on that idea though. I believe it's Edison.
I think it's the law that electric vehicles need to be named after Nikola Tesla or Thomas Edison in some way.OldeSkool and Carpenter Scotty Thank this. -
Edison will probably reach out from the grave somehow to steal the idea!
upnorthwpg, broke down plumber, OldeSkool and 1 other person Thank this. -
15 kw only 1700 pounds, those big 15 and 16 litre engines you guys have must be tipping the scales close to that. I’m here talking about technology and I can’t even put a link on a g###amn message. Those towable generators are what I’m referencing with the weight and output. I’m better off making sawdust than intrawebbin’ !
