I did, too! But apparently they allow them now. Big electronic sign said "TRUCKS ALLOWED", there were lots too I discovered. I bet there is a lot less when they get the toll bills, though.201773 and FullMetalJacket Thank this.

GPS set was set to avoid tolls but I got on when I saw other trucks running the toll lane and saw the traffic backup. Checking the route, not sure how I would have been able to do that without just sitting there googling how to find the class, much less the toll for a tractor and a semi-trailer. I sure did not expect it to cost hundreds of dollars.tscottme and FullMetalJacket Thank this.

I also would not have guessed the toll to be that high. All but my last employer paid all tolls so I never thought twice about them. As someone that has made many mistakes, I always had one or more reasons I didn't think they would be mistakes when I made them. I eventually learned I'm not a very good judge of how the world should work and I get in a hurry more often than I like to admit. I can only guess the road has variable tolls that charge different amounts, not just for cars and semi-trucks, but also time of day and or traffic volume. I think Texas has some of those as well as VA area. I think my state just approved such a plan here. Some of the toll roads may be so new the GPS doesn't know about them. I don't know what more to do than turn off tolls on the GPS and never change your mind.Stringb8n Thanks this.

Turning off tolls on the GPS does nothing when the toll lane is one lane over and the driver chooses to use it.Stringb8n, tscottme, dosgatos and 1 other person Thank this.

In flying they strongly recommend you never make a snap decision. Make your plan in advance and don't vary from it at the last second unless you have a great reason that is safer and less strain on people/machine. In an emergency they used to say "the first thing you do is wind your watch." That just means don't react, think. Better to take extra seconds to do the right thing than hurry up and do the wrong thing and make it worse. Nobody makes more mistakes than me and NOBODY feels like the most worthless lump of garbage afterwards. It's what makes me be a hard-###.

They should rename that one the President Biden Expressway like the one in Scranton.

Man, back when I was driving NYC, I thought they were crazy for raising the toll on the Ginny Gangplank up to $45 one-way for a semi!! I wonder what it is now??
Rookie driver 956 and Stringb8n Thank this. -
Oh it was like $120 cash price last time I checked. You’d never go back to NJ through Staten Island from Long Island if you could avoid it. Throggs Neck or Whitestone bridge out of Queens and then wherever from there. Gluttons for punishment could escape toll-free through Manhattan if it was late or early, but I think they also toll Manhattan below 59th St nowadays.Rookie driver 956 and Stringb8n Thank this.
