Buddy just so you know. There is no way in H*LL i would work for any of those companys. Ive been drivn since i was 16 years old and god willing in august il hit 70. ive seen it all and heard it all. me and my 3 sons all have our own trucks and trailers and a couple of owner opps. With our own customer base so we run where we want and when we want. and have plenty of social time with friends and family all over the U.S (AND IF YOU ARE WORKING FOR A COMPANY THAT CARES ABOUT YOU STICK WITH THEM BECAUSE THERE IS VERY FEW GOOD ONES LEFF OUT THERE) and i have no plans of hanging up my gloves any time soon.

just to reply to BB and the others;evrythinng you said about stevens is
absolutely gospel!!! I worked for them for 11yrs{dont ask why}.they were.nt as bad back then as they are now,but they are however the biggest bunch of crooks i have been associated with. They have got these kids so brainwashed they dont know how to drive a truck, they only
know how to drive a stevens truck.when they finally get the guts to leave, they dont know what to do they have to relearn everything.like you said it cost more money to work there than you make.sadly, all these big companies;jb,werner, swift, ebgland, etc are all the same -

any body know what company stevens uses for the background checks.? and ive seen people saying that they cant go into canada, why is that?
-
Canada laws are different than US laws...felony, DUI DWI, behind on child support, are some of the reasons one can not go into Canada. Going to Canada is nothing but a nightmare of border checks, paperwork hassels, and no EXTRA pay for your time.

I kinda figured stevens was like that. If you want to learn how to drive a truck without having to go to "school" then get a job at a soda pop company as a merchandiser then after you work there for a couple of months put in for a driving job and they will train you and it doesnt cost a dime thats what i did about 8 years ago it is not rocket science to drive a truck, its easier than you think.

Stevens is a POS, I was called and they left me a message like "(my name here) EXACTLY LIKE IT WAS ON THE APP. You have been approved for a position with Stevens transport my name is Bla Bla Please call me back at 8888888888 I need to speak with you right away, Remember you have been approved for a position with us" I called her back not a half hour later, The conversation goes like this, "This is Bla Bla How can I help you"(in a very hurried tone of voice) "I'm so-n-so" I said "I had a message to call you back right away" she said, "Oh yes(calls me by my first name) Did I speak with your mother for the message? I say "No My mother doesn't answer my phone" She tries to argue with me about who she spoke with I told her "You left me a message" she says, "Oh I need you to call me back in 30 minutes I am Interviewing one person and I have two lines holding" I thought to myself why did you even answer the darn phone if you are that busy, So I waited till the beginning of the next day at starting time for her, I call her, We go back over the phone call to my mother bla bla... I told her "My mother does not talk on my(cell) phone unless I hand the phone to her to speak with someone who I have been holding a conversation with", She says "Oh OK" then she pauses and says, Are you interested in coming to work for us"? I said "I do not have my CDL and I am enrolled to get it starting in May", "Oh" she says "We will pay for your hotel and your food and a bus ticket to get here and if you stay 3 years the debt will be forgotten", I butted in and said "What debt?" She said "All of the expense of the training and so forth" I said "Well I have already enrolled in my community college and I don't think I'm going to change those plans now, I can stay at home and not have the expenses of those that are there" She said "Ok give us a call back if you change your mind" I said "Ok I will if I change my mind"(why would I change my mind you have already argued with me about who you did not speak to to leave a message and now you want me to come to work for you... HA. So since that time I have received 3 phone messages "(my name) You have been approved for our training and guaranteed a position with us after you finish your training" And then to top it all off, I received today in the mail a Post card, "We are looking forward to you coming to work for us... Bla Bla" BS. I'm not going there they are the red or blue trucks of the reefer division of trucking, NOPE NOT ME!!.,

Did she tell you about the free use of the Sybian in the drivers room? All trucking companies are like this to some extent. Stevens is unusual because they are fielding hundreds of calls from newbies like you. Most probably have less of a clue than you do. Unless you are gonna drive local it probably doesn't matter where you go because all OTR training companies suck. Every one of them. Some of the ones that dont take trainees suck as well.

ummm No, Was that doing to be the deal maker? I have no idea what that is, Please explain. Thanks.

When all is said and done I have a CDL that Cost me $10000.00 and While I was out with Stevens I never got home once in 15 weeks.
