Idaho Milk Transport is one I've had my eye on to call. At least one of my classmates is probably going to go there. Seems like they might pay somewhat better than many other new drive jobs.

I'd also recommend looking at Scott Jackson trucking out of Jerome and Arlo G Lott. Don't know if they're currently hiring but I've talked to a few of their drivers and they seem happy. Good looking trucks and a lot of them. There are a ton of options in Idaho.

What carriers (if any) visited your class -- while you were in CDL school?
Did you talk with any of them?
What did/do you think?

A common mistake that many rookie drivers make....is they assume a carrier must be a certain, sho-nuf loser...if they have a less-than-amazing experience with one recruiter.
One bad car salesperson does not make GM (or Toyota, or RAM...or whoever) a bad company.
Swift offers a lot of different opportunities...& brings a lot to the table....that other carriers can't/won't.
Don't dismiss them so fast.
For example....here's a Swift opportunity to get some experience in "heavy haul"...without first doing years of flatbed (imagine flatbed -- but without all that tarping
):
Swift -- CDL "A" truck driver -- heavy haul -- Idaho
Heavy haul is where the real money is...in the world of flatbed/open deck.
That's just one example.
The bottom line: in today's freight market -- give Swift a second look.
Especially if they have made you a solid offer.

That's why I applied to Swift despite getting a bad feel from the initial recruiter from driver training.
Regarding the heavy haul, I did a little checking last week and I believe that's just reefer/dryvan with a higher weight/axle count for Costco/similar rather than open deck stuff?
Checking online, I've seen that most of the negative reviews of Swift ("I only get a few miles, I make 500 a week often, I was let go after 6 months for a "minor" issue") seem to be in video form, and more of the positive reviews ("I started at Swift OTR, demonstrated competence, and got on a dedicated account after a few months making 80k my first year") are written, which I take to be a good sign. That said, I've had a surprisingly hard time getting in contact with one of their recruiters this time around. I called the Lewiston terminal and was transferred to recruiters who never answered, and was given a number for a recruiter they seem to prefer that neither answers nor calls back to voice mails. I'm going to try a lot harder this week to get in contact with them.
Unfortunately we only had one company visit our school during my time there, for seasonal ag work a few counties away. While none of the graduates seem to have issues getting jobs pretty much immediately, our school wasn't as popular as one of the others in the area that was backed up for several months.Chinatown Thanks this. -

You're correct about the heavy-haul. Other reefer companies advertise heavy-haul and that means what you posted:
From @johndotsun :
"Regarding the heavy haul, I did a little checking last week and I believe that's just reefer/dryvan with a higher weight/axle count for Costco/similar rather than open deck stuff?"
Here's Swift heavy-haul trailers:
