I was wondering if anyone goes this way with no hassles. The atlas and the Caltrans website shows a short break in the truck route where it's California legal only. So stupid that they can't make this a STAA route all the way through. Otherwise you have to go through Barstow to get to 15.

Flat Earth Trucker and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

there's a flatbed on it right there. Not really the definitive answer you want. But it looks drivable

It's good route driver no problems. I've run it before but it's been quite awhile

The restriction is at 22nd Ave and 32nd Ave. 90 degree right turns then a 90 degree left turns about a half mile down. Ran that way many times and even met CHP and they didn't bat an eye. Just watch for traffic down by the sand dunes.

My outdated MCRA does NOT show CA-78 as truck restricted or with any low obstructions. I'd probably run it. You probably need a good CA story for your collection, anyway.

Used to run that way all the time when National Beef was running in Brawley. I had a long truck and a 52ft spread and never once got looked at.

The only sign I saw was Truck Semis Kingpin to Rear Axle over 34 feet Not Advised. It didn't say prohibited. None of those curves or turns were too tight. The sand dunes were cool. Never been out that way.

It’s a good road, just don’t go to fast over the camel humps. You can spark your landing gear pads, ask me how I know…. :D:D:D

Aside from that, have fun and like everyone said watch out for the dunes traffic.
