Yeah I’m still offended by stolen valor. Claiming to be a Vietnam vet when you didn’t go and enlisted after they stopped sending troops sorta pisses me off. I imagine it upsets quite a few people.

 

You know, I am going to address this one last time, and then I am putting you on ignore. For someone that never served a day in your life you are awful hung up on this (I enlisted 9 Oct 74). In fact I had lunch that day with a Marine recruiter. Went DIRECTLY from there to the Army and signed up right then and there.

B) "Vietnam veteran" vs "Vietnam-era veteran"

• In association with (A) above, the Commemoration uses the term "Vietnam veteran" to describe those who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of duty location.
  
• We do NOT use the phrase "Vietnam-era veteran."

Secondly, I went to the VAMC about 15 years ago +/- and the gal checking me in said "oh, you are a Viet Nam vet". And I corrected her, I said "no, mam, Im a Viet Nam ERA vet". Her response was "honey, there no such thing. By VA guidelines if you served on or before May 7, 75 you are a Viet Nam vet and dont let anyone tell you different". I have never claimed to have been in country. If you want the VA to change it back to what I THOUGHT it was 15 years ago, I guess you can call your buddy Donnie and have him issue an executive order on it. I have no problem with that because prior to that VA vist I had ALWAYS said I was a Viet Nam ERA vet.

So there you go. Now again, YOU ARE NOW ON MY IGNORE LIST. Dont waste peoples time with your unfounded "outrage". Put on a uniform and then tell me what you think. Changing lanes is a significant cause of accident on hiways. I dont change lanes if I dont have to. I dont sit in the left lane if there are only 2 lanes. I dont sit in the left lane if there is light traffic. But if Im in a city (like Minneapolis), yeah. I get in the left lane (where there are 3 or more lanes) and I stay there.

Cars are smaller, faster, more maneuverable, accelerate quicker, and have better visibility than we do. Last accident I had (downtown Minneapolis in June of 98) was because I was in the right lane and a pickup was passing me on the shoulder while a lady in a car moved over inches off my bumper. She jumped on her brakes to avoid the pickup and that was it. I hit the back of her. 2 state troopers actually saw it happen so it wasnt ruled as a chargeable for me. Since then I stay in the left lane in heavy traffic and havent had many issues because of it. Edit: Unless of course its one of those areas where no trucks allowed in the left lane.
