How does that apply? I'm not claiming to be holy, neither is mr smartypants. I'm just saying there's plenty of smart people that get swindled because they think they're too smart to get fooled. Most people don't even think about what they were taught as children, whether smart or not. Introspection takes effort.

Brainwashing is an effort of deception. Mathew 24:24 speaks of an effort of deception so great that even those closest in their relationship with Jesus may end up not believing what is actual truth.

 

All civilizations have had some kind if higher power or powers to explain what they can't understand.

 

As far as I know, it relates to evolutionary advantages in the human brain. If you hear a rustling in the bushes and think nothing's there sometimes you die but if you always think something's there the rare occasion there is something there you live. Humans and animals are primed for paranoia.
