I park wherever I can- I used to run through the same areas over and over, so I had found a few spots that I really liked. I will park at a truck stop, wherever I can (party row or otherwise), but if it's a nice night, I try to find a well lit get-on ramp and park there- it's so peaceful shutting the truck off and sleeping with a nice breeze.
-
It is peaceful until a bear beats on your door and gives you a ticket for parking there. -
You got that one right. One night coming up I-69, I saw this bear parked behind three USF Holland trucks (on the shoulder of a get-on ramp), and he had his ticket book out. Turns out that's a regular spot (or at least it was) for them to catch some shuteye (around 0400-0500).
Thankfully I have never been bothered by old smokey bear when stopped on a ramp.

I am originally from Anderson. 69 runs right by my hometown. Got a cousin that has been an O/O for 30 years or better from there. Told me he got a ticket on the ramp last time I talked to him. I think he said $300 bucks. Down here they are cracking down as well 300-500 bucks.

i thought on-ramps to be acceptable.? as i have seen COUNTLESS #'s of trucks over the years there.

They have been writing more lately. Always been against the law, just overlooked. I don't see parking on a onramp as a hazard. Offramp more dangerous with cars exiting at a high rate of speed.
-
exactly my thoughts. depends on the time of month i guess. the super troopers here (NW FL.)like to set up double radar sites the last 3-4 days of the month

Yeah, he's right. Used to be able to shut down and catch a quick nap, not anymore. One night I was pulling off (because i was dead tired) only to pull up on a bear's back bumper, and said bear had his ticket book out. Needless to say, i kept going to the next truck stop (Crazy D's in warren IN).
Just what we need, bears writing money grab tickets instead of watching the roads. -
When I was doing OTR, I loved driving at night and resting during the day, generally at rest stops. I don't have to worry about lot lizards or druggies, occassionally wildlife would be an issue when walking from truck to bathroom.
