I've done it a few times in my career when I was OTR. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do, I wasnt above it or pointing fingers LOL . You just don't want the on ramps to be your go to parking, now that is a problem.
Taking your 10hr break on the shoulder, the best you can do?

My favorite is an independent on exit 205. 5 trucks parked on the exit shoulder. He has a minimum of 50 spaces available every night.[/QUOTE] The young fellow that works in that independent truckstop at night will give you about anything you want out of the hot case for free if you buy more than $500 of diesel fuel. He has some pretty good wings in there on occasion. Often tell you to grab a Coke on the house too. But if that old white haired man is behind the counter with him, he’ll pretend he’s never met you before. I’ve fueled up there many times, and he’s always cheerful and friendly, not many Indians arestwik, Numb and Walk Among Us Thank this. -
There is simply not enough parking in most areas of the country. The Northeast is especially ridiculous.
Do you really think that all drivers park on ramps because they want to? Rather than there is no parking available when the driver has to shut down for his break?
"Well dur hur trip plan and dur hur work for a different company."
So you have never been given a load that didn't have a lot of time on it, either because it was never initially given any leeway time on the load or because the shipper held you up for 5 hours past your appointment time, despite you being on time?
Tell me you've never done reefer, without telling me you've never done reefer.
Did it ever occur to you that maybe the drivers parked on ramps don't do it everyday? That maybe most of the people you see on ramps are doing it as on occasional thing when their day/load gets screwed up through no fault of their own?
Did you ever think that the reason you might not have seen so many trucks parked on ramps "back in your day" is because the drivers fudged the logs before ELD's so they could just drive until they found a legit parking spot?
Last, you do realize in a lot of areas in the country that it's logistically impossible to have every trucker park in a legal parking space at an official place of business for trucks. So I'm talking about no parking on ramps, no parking on industrial streets that have no parking signs, etc etc. You do realize this, right?
Do tell me OP, does the NYC/Newark metro have adequate parking for all the freight that moves through there? I'll go a step further, is there adequate parking 2 hours in all directions of NYC/Newark?
No. No there is not adequate parking within 2 hours in all directions of the NYC/Newark metros. Not even close.
What a self righteous and arrogant post OP. Blaming truckers when there isn't #### for parking in many spots around the country.Gearjammin' Penguin, hotrod1653, Numb and 2 others Thank this. -

There’s a ramp
Near me that local drivers park on and leave their truck there every night
there’s a large apartment complex adjacent so I assume they live there
I drive by it nearly everyday and see the same trucks parked there every dayD.Tibbitt and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -

I'm all for careful trip planning, but shippers and receiver can create havoc with your planning, especially for the refers, I've pulled lots of varieties of loads, seems tankers and drop n hooks are best about getting you in and out.
Farms and grocery warehouse are the worst.
Part of why I try to run certain hours helps keeping in a position of plenty of spaces, but the again it at times get messed up, thankfully most of Heartlands load planning have enough hours on them to allow me to adjust the load back to the schedule I prefer to run, And here the driver has the option to call in tell them I'm simply to fatigued or just do not feel safe to drive right now, and need a rest brake. I have called dispatch more than once after being detained to tell them when I would be rolling with the load. I have never had a issue here, they would rather the load get delivered safely without damage. Maybe I just have a good dispatcher, don't know.BeHereNow97 and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.
