Guy I know that drives for a small company that hauls for the military ,
They run more empty miles than loaded

They’ve run DH from Georgia to Idaho to pick up and bring back a load

they’ve run DH from Savannah to San Diego, to grab a load and team it back to Savannah in 50 something hours

As long as you getting paid a decent profit who cares if it’s empty or loaded ?

    skallagrime and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

They were looking for options? You quote them 18k. They shop around. It's a team load so it's 6 or 7 days running fo 5600 miles

Quite honestly. If they called knowing I would deadhead 2750 miles to get it. Just to go 2750 miles. I know I have the upper hand in negotiations. I would have quoted 27,500. Then probably would have agreed to 25, just so they feel like they are getting a bargain.

But idk his freight. Maybe that’s high, maybe that’s cheap

To vague to answer, don't know Cost per mile to run truck, what you pay yourself, what kinda of equipment, what kinda of load/weight, permits, route, etc etc.

I used to regularly run a good paying load 900 miles to deliver ,
And DH back to grab another good paying load

most of the other guys would dick around for a day and DH 100 miles to pick up a normal paying load back to home ,
But it was always spend 8 hours and 100 miles to go get a load and then the load was at least a hundred miles out of the way and another 8 hours of delays

I made more money by deadheading back to the port and grabbing another of the endless loads of fresh fruit from Central America that paid good to deliver .
