I have had my CDL since 1998. I drove for a little over 1 1/2 years before going back into Navy. 2 open heart surgeries in 2005. Medically retired in 2007. Drove OTR for 19 months (8/07-4/09). I have been turned down by every company I have applied with. I have a clean record (driving, felonies, etc) I have a current medical card and medical insurance through Navy. When I ask why I don't recieve a job offer I'm told, "they don't give us that information." If I'm being turned down because of my heart surgeries, do they have to tell me? Any advise is much needed as I need a job urgently. Thanks.
What does a prospective employer "have" to tell you?

They don't have to tell you, but I would guess you're on the right track. Have you tried some small companies face to face ?
-
No. Don't know of any "small" companies in my area and the larger ones are not very close.

Stevens didn't give me a reason (Whether she knew, which I felt she did, and just flat out wouldn't is the question.) But I agree that you're on the right track.
Just keep searching, keep up the determination, and eventually it WILL pay off, even if you end up quite frustrated for a time.
Best of luck to you, and I hope you can get an actual answer out of at least a few of them. -
It's a safe bet they know your medically retired and had the surgery.
That makes you a risk plus you're retired giving the perception you don't need money so they can't control you. ( as much ) Motor carrier mgmt. believes keeping the driver cold and hungry keeps him in control and coming back.
Try smaller carriers. Try not to apply to carriers that use DAC.
Good luck -
I think the other posters are right and that your medical history is working against you. I think it's bogus that the companies dont have to tell you but they seem to be able to get away with whatever they want. You also need to keep in mind that with the "new" CSA 2010 regulations it's gonna be harder to get hired with any kind of medical history

Adding one more piece: When one employer talks to another they say things to each other that allows the other to formulate an opinion about the applicant.
One of their fav. questions is : is he eligble for rehire? and a no is certain death especially in trucking for as we all know there is a driver shortage so every prospect must be checked before being tossed.
And yes driver, the recruiter knows why not....... their value is gauged on the the amt. of recruits they process so if you drop out....he just can't say....
