I have a 12.7 and im gonna be changing my own turbo. I do a lot of stuff on my own. Never have done anything like this. I believe I have the tools, ive watched videos and have gained massive confidence in myself doing this job....
Ill post pre/post work. From everything ive seen. its more or less, remove and replace. No need to disconnect the batteries, etc. Im typing this after I sprayed a few bolts with PB Blaster. Giving it a few to soak in. Ive taken the week off...... Im hoping of course it only takes a few hours but, I dont want to rush doing it while under a load or rushing to do this needing to pick up a load.
Any words of advice? Or anything I should know or maybe ive missed??
FYI…. Fixing leak around the water pump will be next weekend![]()

Replace nuts and studs in the manifold. The oil supply line on top of the turbo, back up the fitting in the turbo before you try to break loose the nut on the line. Pre lube the turbo with clean oil.
The return line. Be gentle with it. You can move it, but try not to any more than required. Double and triple check the gasket when you're putting it back together.
Torque the nuts if you don't have a good feel for torqueStar Rider, D.Tibbitt and nikmirbre Thank this. -
Ok on replacing the nuts/studs in the manifold.
The Return line...The line from the turbo to the oil pan correct? Ive got the gaskets and all of that came with the turbo........ do I need to use any kind of gasket maker/liquid on the gasket itself?
Its actually going pretty good so far...both oil lines came loose easily. The top 2 nuts on the manifold came loose easy.......aI didnt have to fight with any of the clamps. Unless im missing something, only 2 left are the bottom 2 on the manifold.
Can you explain Pre-lubing the turbo?D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Put clean oil in the turbo supply port. Spin the turbo and keep filling the supply port until oil comes out the return

Nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be. I thought everything was gonna be seized up!!
Star Rider, D.Tibbitt and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
I’m assuming I’ll need an o-ring right here as my new turbo doesn’t have 1
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Also, I have 2 gaskets here. I know 1 is for the bottom of the turbo for the oil return line. Where does that smaller one belong?
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
You can reuse the o ring if you need to. If it's intact with no damage, I've never had one leak.
The gasket that doesn't fit is for a different application
