I have always heard that they are the bottom of the barrel in the LTL world. No details though.

Depends on the terminal and terminal manager .

    When I worked there :

Linehaul drivers ran nights and loaded the P&D trailers in the morning .

P&D drivers ran days and loaded the Linehaul trailers in the evenings.

The larger terminals can have dedicated forklift drivers/dockworkers

Linehaul drivers got paid their route pay while driving and hourly while on the dock

P&D got paid straight hourly and no overtime until after 55 hours

Linehaul trailers were typically junk and we would keep/(steal) the newer trailers for P&D work when ever they showed up

Trucks are International and KW governed @ 67-68 mph . The manual transmission Internationals had a trick to make them go as fast as you wanted .

    They use manual pallet jacks

As far as LTL goes , they’re on the lower end of the pay scale but it’s a job and you’re home everyday for the most part …. They do have some team runs and you’re also able to go to different terminals to help out and they’ll put you in a motel/hotel and pay per diem

I enjoyed my time there , nobody bothered us if we got the job done and I vastly improved my backing skills due to their customers lol !!!
