How's that working out for you? I agree you have to stand out but I don't think applying over the computer or the the phone would cover all the bases. I would start with face to face applications at their terminal then when I exhausted all the companies in my area I would go to the phone and computer. You have to know that real good companies have no need to advertise and there are some that will take new drivers. But you'll never know unless you see them. Using the phone is the worse way IMHO. I would never take a driver over the phone. The people at my company looked at it this way. If you couldn't even spend the time and come see us then we didn't want you. You can of course use it to find out what the companies require but you'll get a bottom line answer that might be different if you were there asking.

Well most of these companies are way far from me like in other states.

I have a lousy work history I guess that's all there is. Last time I worked was in 2008 because I had messed my back up in 2007 and it got aggravated in late 2008 and had surgery last July have not worked since August 2008. The time between that job and the previous one was like 2 years. Where I live there wasn't much work. Mostly fast food joints and they weren't hiring at the time.My wife got a job at wendy's and then wal mart so I stayed at home with the kid.

you have two big strikes going against you. poor employment record and the back injury/surgery.
I can't imagine any company taking a chance on you based on the surgery thing alone.
Good luck. You might do better looking for a smaller local company that you can build a record with.

You are right nothing compares to face 2 face however,:biggrin_255:nowadays you almost have to go on line to fill out an app. Just trying to give him some options more is better until you find a home.

Well my back is fine now. 1 company actually wants a release from my doctor so I will get that and make a copy for myself to show companies if they ask about it. Only last effect from it is my back starts to hurt some when I stand for 15-20 minutes but that also seems to be getting better. I think a lot of the back hurting now has to do with my weight. Hopefully I can find someone to take a chance on me. I also called a company in South Dakota where a friend lives and he is hiring ready mix drivers I just need to go get my air brake endorsement. I have no idea how I am going to get to SD from Ga though.:biggrin_25523: But if he hires me then I will get there some how. He is supposed to be sending me an application.

Even so I'd still go to the company. That way they can place a face to the application.

No, Knight nor Squire has a school. The training offered through Squire is over the road training after you've already been trough an outside accreditted school. Once you go thru a school and have your license, Squire puts you through a 2 phase training process, "on the job" training basically.
But no, neither has a school.

Not every company uses the internet for hiring. You can still find some great jobs by seeking them out. It's sure worth a try so you'd know you did everything you could possible do.

I'd agree with GasHauler on this - if the big guys don't bite (make sure you try Prime) - then you need to hit the smaller outfits. You may have to go to 100 places to get in, but if the 101st pays off, then persistance was an asset! Don't let the "No's" get you down!

I won't argue with that. I would rather meet in person you can sell yourself much better that way. When people see how you dress, carry yourself, hygien. If all those are something you take pride in it goes along way. I think most of the big companys use the internet or a driving school for hiring puposes. At least all that I have applied to do. But then again I live in little old Tucson, I am going to Phoenix to apply with some companys, as my community college pushed my start date back to May,17th due to trainer illness. So I will be able to tell for sure. Probably not till next week though.
