Anyone ever heard good/bad about this company?

    http://www.universetruck.com/

Pay starts at $.34 per mile, paid practical miles.

Other bennies are on the company driver page. Was thinking of signing on with them, but wanted to see if anyone here ever drove for them or knows someone who does. Thanks! :)

Checked out their website but wasn't a whole lot there. I had never heard of them before.

Universe is based here in Omaha. They run to the east coast and back, so if you hate Jersey, don't look there. Also, if you don't like running illegal... stay away. They get Omaha drivers one day each week, and I am not sure if they hire outside the Omaha area. As a former recruiter for another Omaha company, I have talked to quite a few Universe guys. They get tired of having their lips beaten off... and running illegal.

If you personally have never worked for a company, how can you bad mouth them?
I have been a Recruiter for The Universe Company for over 5 years and; #1 they do not run illegal, #2. Almost every driver bad mouths the company they just came from. and #3 we at Universe Truck Lines have a turn over rate at Universe of 4-5 years. That alone says that our company must be one of the best. Compare our turn over rates to any company out there and you will find their best is at 1.5 to 3 years tops.
Many ex-Universe drivers come back to Universe because we put drivers first, not the load.
Their is no company as good as the last one you came from, or the one you are going to! The one you are at always sucks. The old grass-is-greener outlook on life.

If you go by what some frustrated driver tells you because he didn't do his job and got fired, you will never find one company good enough to call home and you will be looking a long time.

This truck line is managed by a group of very dishonest people. I worked for them for about 2 months a few years ago. On the back of every one of their trucks is a ad that says "Driver gets home every weekend" or something to that affect. I was told this at the time I took the job. However, once I was dispatched, they kept me on the road for a full 3 weeks. They also kept me out sitting in a truckstop on 2 different occasions both over memorial day, and fathers day. When I got back, I handed them the keys and cleaned the truck out.... big mistake. They placed a black mark on my DAC services (currently called "hire-right")... that said "quit under dispatch". They were dishonest about things with me, and thats why I would not reccomend anyone sign on with them... I absolutely would not choose to sign on with these guys if I were you. I could give you names and numbers of MANY other reputable companies as an alternative. I currently do work for a very decent family run company... and Im very happy I left these clowns to find them in the manner I did thinking back on it.

As a guy who HAS actually worked for Universe, and a driver with over a million miles of safe driving and 14 years in the industry I will say this about Universe Company... I worked for them for several months and noone asked me to log illegally. However, they DID break their word to me when it came to being home and off for the weekends. I try to be fair and honest when I put a rebuttal on any website about any company I work for. I harbor no ill will towards any of these people. But a lie... is a lie. No matter how you fluff it up. When a recruiter sits down with you at a company and stares you straight in the eyes and tells you that they will get you home EVERY weekend... thats what you expect them to deliver. In all honesty, that was NOT the case with these people. I stayed out for 3 weekends (21 days) on one run before getting back, and that was enough for me. Having a family was more important then serving a group of people who were outright dishonest with me from the start. Yes, they got away with labeling my immediate resignation after my 3 week run as a "quit under dispatch" on my Hire right record... But I will not lie, or defame them in any manner just because Im not happy about it. It is what it is. I messed up by not giving them a 2 week notice and losing my cool... and they really messed up by falsifying the circumstances of my resignation the way they did. I would avoid Universe Company, and thats my honest opinion... Take it with a grain of salt if you like... and find out the hard way how much these people put "drivers first, not the load"... what a joke~!
