I have a few questions that I would like to see if any of you may know:
In the "per-diem" package it says you are paid $50.00 for 6 holidays.
1. Are there no paid holidays in the "non per-diem" programs?
2. If you're per-diem and you work a holiday - do you still get the $50.00 plus your normal milage pay for the day?
Which mileage calulation do you use - HHg or practical? What is the differences?
Thanks in advance for your comments - I just want to ensure I am making a truly "informed" choice.

if you take non per diem you do not get any paid holidays and yes if you take per diem and you work you still get paid the 50 dollars also. the hhg or practical is a .02 cents difference. on hhg you get paid .02 cents extra per mile but you get paid short route miles.

I've heard that the hhg v. pratical someone told me it was about 5% more miles on the practical side. If that holds true then it is a little bit more. If you get 120000 miles on hhg you'll get 126000 on practical miles. figure .29 cpm on hhg=34800. practical figure .29 cpm = 34020 difference of about $780 you'd think you be better with practical miles, but its probably pretty close. might be more than 5% I have no proof of that, but read or heard it somewhere.

Thanks Guy - just so many choices to make and just want to ensure I make the "smartest" ones I can. Per Diem or not, HHG vs. Practical, and so on.
Just wonder if you dont take the per diem and take practical - do they frown in that? Dont need issues from the start! -
don't forget that under per diem you get 1 week paid vacay after 6 months where on non-per diem you won't.

I misstated, you actually make more on the hhg miles than the practical. Now maybe at a lower amount of total miles you'd make more on practical.
Millis is on my short list and I am planning on taking the per diem with them. vacation after 6 months is a selling point. Not to mention the bonus program they have. It ends up equalling out and I would make as much cpm as I would going with Roehl, who is on the short list as well. -
My only concern with Millis is the miles - can I get enough miles to make a decent living and would like to see more of the US than just the east coast. But still weighing things out. That $400 down is causing me more issues than anything else. I dont want to let go of that money so I will have something there for emergancies.

As far as training companies go I think that they are comparable. Not sure about miles though. Roehl has more up front cost than Millis. That is one reason I'm leaning toward them. Plus the school I'll go to is in Ohio.
The thing about staying in the East is mostly, but they will go to all 48 if they get loads there. I'm still not certain which way I'm going, but I'll be at one of these two in June! -
Well I can certainly respect them for requirying money upfront with all the issues most companies have - I just dont have it to spare so it might mean I either delay my start or choose another carrier.

I can understand that. It really is what you make it mostly. Regardless of what good or bad some have said about this or that in the end it comes down to the fact of you and your work ethics. You do a good job for a company like Swift and you make out ok. You got to do what you got to do. Easy as this. I would be looking at others too if I were in you situation.
