LOL! It's not funny when you start feeling like it's gonna tip! Was running a hival pharmaceutical load (1 pallet) a couple years ago when the reminants of Katrina decided it wanted my machine! Slowed way down, and made it to a little truckstop - that was in Ohio!

I've been told the longest 3 seconds of your life is when you know its going over, and the mirror hits the ground.
The Challenger Thanks this. -

Yeah, no mention of weight. Knowing when your truck and trailer will blow over is a very unknown science. The DOT in WY was doing a study on it, but I have not heard of the results. They were inquiring on the Discovery Channel website, Mythbusters.
They fail to add weight into these equations as well. Obviously, the lighter you are, the more danger of blowing over. Also, when "wind gusts" are reported, those are estimates or only what have been reported. It doesn't mean that there aren't some rogue gusts out there blowing even faster. It is tricky. Generally, if gusts are reported over 60mph, and you are under 20,000 lbs, you need to be slowing down or getting off the road.
But again, this is a judgment call. I recently drove through reported wind gusts of over 60 mph with 11,000 lbs. Though averaged about 45-50 mph from Utah to Texas. Though, the Mythbusters could not come up with an equation, I think slowing down does help. At least, it could make the wreck less harmful if you do blow over.

Or if you were in Tennessee were the floods happened.

F_w_min=μm[(a_n)sinθ-g]
a_n=v²/ρ
This is obviously a mistake... -
Sure is...I can't see any configuration of letters that would spell "SWIFT" anywhere in the formula...must be code talk!
shriner75 Thanks this. -
