Worked there for years and a half after they got taken over by STI International they played stupid for my last 4 months with there per diem pay saying next week we will have it fixed. Then I gave a 2 week notice and they said if you leave you don’t get your per diem owed to you on my last day I called. Fidelity about my 401 k and they said your employer has not contributed a penny fidelity told me I should have gotten. Over 8 k If anyone is owed per diem from Cotc I got an attorney on this matter.

Buy outs suck… especially if it’s by some mega holding or private equity firm. They’ll basically mistreat the drivers until they get fed up and leave or come up with some bs against them.

so they told you they would put money into it, and then didn't?
in what ways did they play dumb with per diem pay?
any other pay stub misrepresentations. one method is they just misreport everything on the paystub all together. everything is in wrong catagories. this enables them to cheat later on the govt, and their own drivers. i was wondering if they pulled that trick to enable themselves cheat certain kinds of pay. for example mileage pay may be labeled bonus pay on the paystub. i had a fedex ground contractor who had overseas accounting firm do payroll this way, and i never filed a claim but should of because it's the precuror to much larger financial crimes.
in what ways were you injured?Last edited: Aug 10, 2025
Ribeye and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -
I had an old friend who drove for one of the chicago carriers. He was supposedly paid like an employee W-2. End of one or two years came, company says he's a 1099 contractor, never paid into his taxes. Friend was careless, didn't keep paperwork either. IRS tells him he now owes $70k in back taxes. He wasn't the sharpest guy but really... Crooks are everywhere. Got to always CYA.

And they're owned by TFI, not STI. (Technically the flatbed division is called SFI, but TFI is the company that owns all of the former Daseke companies). When I was with SPD, Daseke sold out and all of our profit sharing got cashed out. I never investigated how to start any 401k or profit sharing with TFI because I knew it was gonna be a deadend job working for them.
