The fact of the matter is this guy make this u turn could’ve easily went into a parking lot nearby and turned around and the fact that he’s from that area makes it even worse cause he should’ve known better… He’s very fortunate. nobody hit him or he’d be sitting behind bars… Because he doesn’t have the critical thinking skills to sit there properly operate that truck he shouldn’t be operating it… And like others, I am fed up with people defending this kind of bad behavior behind the wheel generally speaking when people defend this kind of behavior. It’s generally because they do it themselves and have been doing it… Point blank he made a ill advised Uturn..

When old timers have to immediately gloat and shame the modern drivers I quickly tune you out.... just because you had it harder doesn't mean you are somehow better than today's truckers....I wasn't calling you stupid I was calling you uninformed based on your defense of this unsafe u-turn......just because you get away with it for so long as you put it doesn't mean you were being professional or safe ..... again I respect many old timers truckers because they did pave the way to the industry we still cherish today........but just like this car hauler, I think you dropped your brain somewhere if you're defending this behavior....:rolleyes:

Actually #1 at Ospry as they're stating doesn't have an intersection with a No Left or U-Turn sign on the southbound side. There's turning lanes in northbound side where he started the U-turn so the claimed location of the infraction doesn't check according to Google Streetview. This is congested city traffic, light to light, too. So let's not compare it to the tragedy on the FL Turnpike. This boys just trying to deliver some cars and seems to have bottomed out as he was was forced to go wide. You can see the turn lane he's come from on the north side as well.

It had to happen here. There's a turn lane from the NB side and no roadway to turn into so it's only a U-Turn, rendering the Sheriff's ticket trumped up for trucks. And the SB no U or Turn is visible.

I don't think that link works but copy and paste into Maps and that's where it had to happen.

Aggressive Sheriff's deputy would've been more appropriate to write a Impedance of Traffic ticket than making a big warning to truckers on the consensus of recent events, but then he'd be on his way to Detective and society would have a lot more to worry about than illegal immigrants without legitimate CDL credentials. I'm giving the Parking Lot a Pass

Umm nope if he couldn't safely complete the maneuver without bottoming out it shows he's still a fool....that he doesn't know his truck .....there were options to turn around but he chose not to and you're defending his laziness by blaming the sheriff??? You should get off the road perhaps...

The article says the road was closed at Osprey, not that he tried his u turn there. It’s pretty clear in the video he’s not at an intersection. I wonder if those defending this behavior would be of the same opinion if a car or another truck had slammed into him while he was hung up and stuck in the ditch? I’d say that’s doubtful.

I used to do limited heavy haul oversize for a few years from ports of Baltimore and Tacoma, Savannah and up by Charlotte there up to 140,000lbs and I haven't had a traffic infraction for 12yrs and I drive 14,000 miles a month. So, No, I don't think I'll be getting off the road any time soon.

I s'pose you "identify" with the Sheriff's office. Apples and Oranges in your mind but the fact is, it's only a U-Turn intersection, he Impeded traffic by going very wide to avoid not only the curb but also damaging the marker. I also suspect the allure was the grid of the excessive pavement to accommodate that he thought here, rather than a busy intersection was more appropriate to attempt to turn around.
In any case, he's only human and humans make mistakes.
Thankfully no minivans with three occupants going about their day found themselves careening into him and lodging in that tiny space underneath at 70 mph.

On Interstates and Major highways espeically where there are signs saying 'No U turns Authorized Veichles Only' there absolutely should be No U tuns what so ever. However, I've noticed this over the years in some States and a couple Canadians provinces especially through the rural areas. Some left turning lanes are designed for only U turns and shows this while other after you miss a left turn & can't gdt in because a four wheeler cut you off. You can driver for 7 to 10 miles before you see a break on a.left turning lane on a two way media road in order of making a left turn u turn. However, common sensd needs to be implemented when doing so or else you're in the wrong. Even for the morons, gps and google maps says it however the disclaimers will say, 'Only when safe to do so'. Its the common sense thinking drivers who understand this.
