Hello and Welcome to the Site:)

Check with your local Community/Technical Colleges and their Truck Driver Training programs. They would be able to tell you who is hiring, in your area. Plus, financial assistance is available, if you qualify. Job placement assistance is also include to further help you.
This option would allow you the opportunity to pick a company that would suit you best. Preferably one w/o a contract. JMHO

    Best of Luck!!!

Not sure about the east coast, I would say to read as much as you can from this forum. I am attending a local truck school. I know a few people in AZ here are attending the community college. As for companies from what I have read my personal rankings for newbies are like this:

    1. Watkins and Shepard
    2. May
    3. Cargo Express out of Idaho
    4. US Xpress
    5. Stevens

For Experience once you get about a year of OTR experience I like these 2 companies:

    1. Calex
    2. JCT

    Good Luck

I am one of the AZ guys going to a Community College, IMHO I would try and do the same. Unless you can find one that does not make you sign a contract to drive for them. Then they own you and they know it. Much better to be able to pick your own company. I suggest that you research and find a trucking company that suites your needs, then call and ask what approved schools they take. Start with the companys that are hiring in your area, and take graduate students. Have you checked your local employment agency you might qualify for a grant. Good luck to you and welcome.

CRST: 100% teams if you like living in a truck with someone then you might want to give them a try.

Stevens: Not the best company out there, but My dad drove for them for years and he doesn't have much bad to say about them.

I agree 100% with the above post you should definitely check out:

    Watkins Shepard
    May
You might also want to check out KLLM
Millis (they only hire students that have gone to there school, other then that they require 1 yr OTR experience)

I have no personal experience with any of these companies but those are the ones I'm looking at going to.

    Good luck!
