Snackbar is chillin'....at Shaffer

Must not be many people that lives close by. They could take that sign down in a matter of minutes around me. But they would probbaly just drop the pay to match the others around them. Thats how it works around here.
I seen an ad a few weeks ago wanting a 3yr experienced driver for $20/hr. I know the place and place and its a dump. Lazy spot is 21.50 and need help all the time. Well I wonder why.

 

If you look closely, it's "up to $30/hr" starting". If you find the actual job listing, starting pay is $22, plus differentials for nights, weekends, and freezer work.

And I doubt they have a problem hiring, its just their business model is based on worker churn.

Also, fun fact is if a person was making $30/hr with overtime and worked 60 hour weeks they would make more than .ost otr drivers.

 

And what’s the work environment. I mean honestly if it’s been up for two years there has got to be management/environment issues. Worker churn is directly influenced by management and management styles.

 

The Walmart hiring trailer in Cheyenne has had that same sign for well over 4 years. It was first $26 then about 2-3 years ago they changed it to $30

 

It's not necessarily a bad work environment, it could be just set up to be a starter job. Or a big enough employer that will have a constant churn of retirements. My grocery store is constantly hiring, but most of the crew I see is the same people now from 10 years ago.

And let's not discount the idea that after going through the hassle of putting the thing up no one has bothered to take it down.

The whole "people don't want to work anymore" is more accurately "people have recognized that going above and beyond yields no better results than doing the bare minimum" or "the company will sacrifice you in a heartbeat, so why sacrifice for them?" or "I'm going to get yelled at no matter what so I'm going to do it the way that gets me yelled at the least".

 

You don’t know if it’s a bad environment because you don’t know the manager/supervisor of that environment. I don’t either, just saying that some people don’t have very good management skills. And a direct supervisor can make or break a work environment

 

$30 an hour can’t be too bad. I mean what’s there to do in Wyoming besides watching the wind blow?

 

Oh, definitely. I was just pointing out that turnover isn't necessarily a sign of bad management.

That said, bad management is the norm. People get promoted to the level of their incompetency and bureaucratic nonsense makes identifying problems difficult and real change impossible. The fact that 'clopen' is a word demonstrates this beyond any counter argument. Yet when workers push back against bad management they get labeled lazy and entitled.
