So here's the thing, really...
In order to be an Owner Operator these days, you have to be a truck driver, a heavy duty truck mechanic with a very good knowledge of modern diesel emission systems, an accountant, an economist who can predict the future at least 2 years out, have an unlimited supply of credit, an attorney to threaten to sue when customers renege on contracts, and have the patience to be nice while losing money.
Oh, and bring $20,000 to the table to play the game.
Just bought an $800 engine sensor harness from the dealer, cause my issue is still ongoing, I'll change it out myself. I'm not paying 1200$ to Freightliner for labor, when they wouldn't help me weeks ago because my code wasn't active. Last piece of the puzzle.
And, everybody on page one of this thread said it's the harness.
So, everybody on page one of this thread give yourselves a clap on the back, your a better mechanic than anyone at a Freightliner/ Detroit Diesel dealership.

I'm still trying to figure out how you spent 8 grand on tires. An expensive brand name drive tire is like what? $500? That would be $4k for 8 of them. Steers maybe $1200 but that bill usually doesn't land at the same time.

Dont have anything to add other than to say keep ur head up and keep rolling forward.. most of us been right where ur at and its frustrating as hell.. like mentioned dont throw parts at stuff. It adds up fast. Watch youtube videos, read the service manual, do everything u can to learn how your engine and emissions system work together and the common problems they have.. new trucks have lots of wiring and electrical faults... Even brand new ones too. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel.. there is plenty of top notch mechanics on here that will give u a helping hand.

That sums it up really. As a small carrier (O/o) I'm wearing multiple hats and have to make a decision on whether I keep operating running into a deep hole because of muliple issues occurring periodically with my truck or just operate from the office by signing on a couple O/o's to my authority because export freight north of the border is runnint steady (note: Only the imported freight which are the reloads are the problem). The Trucking market is in a disarray and in my 3 & half decades I've never seen it like this before. When you add in badly built trucks or the lemon truck purchased unknowingly only compounds issues and a strong decession has to be made when it continues to eat at any profits being made. I personally never wanted to be a jack of all traders and master of none I'm sure as most. However, in difficult fianacial times when one is pushed into financial difficulties your only choices are sink or swim.Rideandrepair, D.Tibbitt, hope not dumb twucker and 2 others Thank this.

Only way to be an OO nowdays is with an older truck with NO computers In it at all
a mechanical injected big cam Cummins or 3406 cat .
yea it’s gonna use a lot more
Fuel than a computer truck
But I’m convinced the end result is the same Money in your pocket at the end of the year .
but right now it’s a very tough time for any trucking biz

Can tell you haven't bought drives in a while, even the cheapest "brand" names are well over $500 if you have 24.5 rims and tall 22?5 ain't much better, last time I put all 8 drives in (Toyo) the bill was $7500SL3406, Feedman and ElmerFudpucker Thank this.

paid $425 per for 11r22.5 Toyo 647(?) last summer myself
