The problem isn’t so much the idea of education versus going into blue collar work. It’s the mentality of those seeking the education today. From around 2010 to 2014 prior to going into trucking, I worked in management position and had to train, evaluate, hire and fire interns from UNC. Out of the approximate 150 or so that I had to deal with? About five I would’ve personally hired myself. The rest of them? Absolutely worthless. I wouldn’t hire them to clean my toilet. Yeah it was that bad. I won’t bore you with all the details why I’m sure you can figure it out. Trucking was a good fit for me after that. I was so sick of dealing with Young entitled, snot nosed spoiled brats that thought because they were getting an education. They were better than most people on this planet. Literally couldn’t deal with it anymore. Trucking has allowed me to only be responsible for myself. I don’t have to worry about anyone but me and getting the job done and I like it. It has its less then desirable moments out here, but it’s on me to work my way into a better day. I plan to remain until retirement age.
Numb, Gearjammin' Penguin and McUzi Thank this. -
Those types of people are subhuman. There are only two types of people who earn the right to judge and look down on others: those who make dinner gravy from scratch, and those who can run 13 or 18 speeds.
-
that was good, but I’m covered, I can do both. 22 years in the food industry. I cook from scratch on the truck.
-
Does breakfast gravy and a 15 speed count?
-
Now those same people are coming to us looking for a student loan bailout
-
In so long as the gravy was not made from a seasoning packet, yes. Jury is still deliberating the 15 speed.
-
Using a gravy packet to thicken and texture a home-made gravy is better than using a roux or corn starch, give it a shot!
-
Absolutely not. I use neither.

I got extremely lucky, the drivers I had were all great and hard working on the dock and on their peddles, there were only a couple complete and total ####heads between the 2 terminals, and even with out the closure it would have taken care of itself when the 2 would have merged.
Now the Linehaul/Utility drivers from some of the other terminals were just a PITA to work with, especially the Columbus OH terminal guys.
