Also, what part of Alaska? I was thinking of going there because the money here in the NW has dried up. You guys are hurting too?
Cant decide which job offer to take, fuel hauling or LTL?

I’m in a hole due to my recent divorce, lawyer fees, and court fees paying alimony&child support. It’s a total mess. Lol
-
Work on the north slope, we’re slow up here too.
-
Oof. Well you'd fit right in with the Linehaul crowd in that case. Sounds more like you need a lawyer.
I have no words of wisdom to offer there. I went into trucking knowing all relationships/kids/etc ends up in divorce. Maybe in the old days women would have a trucker as a father and husband. Not now. Luckily for me I'm far too ugly and autistic to ever have to worry about it. But I'll lie to you and tell you it was my decision to live in near solitary confinement. It was definitely my choice and donchufogettit.
That really sucks, I saw a lot of the job openings drying up in Alaska about 6 months ago. Figured they'd come back in winter though but not seeing much now. Also, most of those jobs require NSTC but don't say they offer training or will get you the card. How does that work? Is it just a hiring filter for now to keep the would-be green twist offs away?Snyd Thanks this. -
You could get the card yourself and that would put you ahead of everybody else because (A) you would already have the card and (B) the company wouldn't have to pay for you to go get it.

As a fuel hauler for Gemini I would echo as several others have said, take a job ANYWHERE that will give you a shot in fuel hauling if its your ultimate goal to come to Gemini or other top companies like Sheetz. In this economy its hard enough getting on to any decent place and Maverik is a good spot to start.
LTL is a good gig but personally if i had to do nothing but sit and drive for every shift id go crazy. Every LTL guy ive talked to has had hours cut and is looking elsewhere. Meanwhile im still above 55+ a week since May. Get a year or two of experience, get to know Gemini drivers in your area then make the leap once they have an opening. -
The extra board at OD is ran different at each terminal. Some run you on your 10 and others like mine run it with start time blocks. My terminal has day shift split between 4am/10am and 10am/4pm. Each block is 6hrs. We bid on start days and times. If you're only making $100,000 working 84hrs a week then LTL linehaul will make you significantly more money in half the time. Yes it's slow right now in certain areas and on certain lanes. We have runs that are running 4 days and you will still gross $130,000 working 40hrs.

130k for 40 hours in what state and city though? And how long/how much seniority does it take to get there?
-
I'm located in Indiana and everything is based on terminal to terminal in LTL. Seniority only gets you a start time and start day on my terminal's extra board. It does matter on scheduled runs but not the extra board.Whiteout out West Thanks this.

Thanks for responding.
Yeah practically every fuel hauler I know at pilot, Maverik, and Gemini here is making well over 100k in WY. Only the starter companies pay 75-85k.Gomer1969 Thanks this.
