I've been on this forum a few years, and I really haven't encountered too many drivers who've actually worked one of these accounts themselves. That should tell you something about how unpopular they are.
As for your question about how many loads per week you can expect, I think that's gonna mostly depend on drive time from DC to each stop, and that will vary from region to region.
Also, I don't know if FD is like DG where they have a mix of company drivers and third-parties. If they do, you can probably expect their drivers to get the better loads closer to home, with third-parties being sent out further for longer.
Let's talk the Family Dollar account

You can regulate how many loads with your logbook, Start showing more time on duty to regulate it to the numbe of loads you can handle, but its also your check that will get regulated.
When you get tired of that give Inland Xpress a call, really good smaller company to drive for, mostly drop n hooks from my experience. Nick is a great guy to work for.77fib77 Thanks this. -
I was on the Dollar General account for 3 years. It was great for my first 1.5 years until they opened a DC in Blair Nebraska and we lost all the Dakotas and Northern Minnesota. It was only worth it when Schneider had the old pay structure and the large service area. I was doing 5 loads a week, all my unloading was off duty. I managed to make $110k my first full year(started in September). After the new pay structure when you had to do unloading on duty I was only getting 4 loads a week and barley cracked 90K and I left. DG got first dibs and they were sending their people close to their home in Minnesota. The final straw was having a Saturday load ending in Plover Wisconsin, 190 miles from home, would have had a total of 390 miles of non paying deadhead to get back to work Tuesday morning. No thanks.
I think the one plus with DG is all you have to worry about is them unlocking the back door. However a lot of back rooms are packed and it can be a ##### to make room. However never thought about Family Dollar since you have to relay on the deadbeats to unload you. I talked to a few guys on Family Dollar and they claim its not that big on an issue.
Looking back I wouldn't have done it. Not only are you breaking your back with work you have to deal with tough store backing for only $90k. Who even knows if $90k is even possible for new people.CamryXSE Thanks this. -
$90k absolutely looks possible. To me that's nothing to sneeze at.
I also did DG for about 6 months. That was about 12 years ago. I always thought FD would be better. I didn't like tangled up rolltainers, the lift gate and just handling those 700 lb beasts.
The heaviest thing I handle is 6 gallons of liquid at a time. If I can keep it close to two trailers a week I expect it to build my body up, not break it down.
They pay structure is off. They should put incentive on the third trailer. Instead, guys end up doing that last one for cheap. I say no thanks. I'll take the personal time, keep my body rested with full recovery, and, I'd like to do it a few years if I can.
