hey 1nonly...thanks so much for starting this thread. I drove for Swift for the better part of 2009 after graduating from Millington, TN academy. I had to come off the road because of a family medical situation and I am going back to driving soon. I have been pre-approved for re-hire with Swift and reading your posts has helped me to decide to come back to them.
I am so glad to hear you are getting good miles. May I ask what you are brining home per week on average? Just curious.

I net about $3-400, but I've got a lot going into my 401K, usually a couple hundred per week. To be honest, I don't pay much attention to my pay because it just doesn't matter to me. I look it over enough to keep them honest and then I forget about it.

Hey 1nonly. U liking that prostar? Or are u missing the volvo. I've drove both. I prefer the prostar myself.
-
Have you ever been to the VA terminal? If so how is the facility. I have questions because I live within 70 miles and was looking for a final stop location closer to home. I actually have pre-hires from Werner and Prime, however thier terminals are 3-4 hours away from the home.

Great explanation. Keep a hauling and be safe!

Would they allow you to take long vacations say for instance a month or two at a time. I'm retired and I see my self driving for about nine months straight with a couple of months off.

Prostar vs. Volvo. Performance is about equal. There are a few features lacking in the Prostar that I was used to in the Volvo, such as the outside temperature reading and tenths of a mile on the odometer, but those are little things. Comfort is sadly lacking in the Prostar. It has a nice ride. That's the only good thing I can say about it. But there's very little storage, the top bunk is too low, and the driver's seat is uncomfortable no matter what position I put it in. But I'm not going to waste any time whining to Swift about it. After all, tornado season is upon us. Maybe this truck will end up in Oz and I'll get a Volvo next time.
Marty, I've been to Richmond only a few times. It's about average as far as Swift terminals go, nothing fancy but not rundown shabby either. As for the office and shop people working at Richmond, I couldn't say. I'm not sure about taking a month off. I don't see why it would be a problem as long as you turned in your truck each time. There might be issues with your benefits, though. I've never asked for extra time off, so I'm not sure what their policy is.Rattlebunny and JustSonny Thank this. -
I had my PTA set for 0800 this morning. I woke up to find I had a preplan. The load picks up in Jackson, TN tonight at 2200 and delivers in Hickory, NC Monday at 0900. I am currently at the Memphis terminal and I went inside to ask if I could get an empty, but they can't give me one yet. She told me to check back this afternoon. They usually won't assign an empty until a couple hours before the load needs to be picked up.
I just googled the NC I40 road closure and am happy to see it's back open. Yay!! That'll make this trip a straight shot down I40, instead of a long detour up I81 to I26.
Oh, yeah, the paid miles are 578.JustSonny, Schmidtrock and Rattlebunny Thank this. -
Do you know what make/model tractors "fresh out of trainers' trucks" newbies usually are assigned. It's not that important to me really, I just want a #### truck! Just curious.....Schmidtrock Thanks this. -
You'll get whatever truck they've got. It could be anything. Truly. Anything. You will only get a choice if they happen to have more than one truck, but that's not common. Usually, trucks are assigned as soon as they become available. Swift doesn't seem to have a whole lot of extra trucks sitting around.
JustSonny, Rattlebunny and Schmidtrock Thank this.
